LRMS Explorers service

Introduction
We look forward to partnering with The Healing
Place to help in a cause that is not only bigger
than Leesville, but a cause that can help
change the world! The Explorers have 120+
student that are extremely interested in
becoming active in their school, community,
nation, and world by joining the fight against
homelessness and being active participants in
the Poverty Project. The objective of the
Leesville Road Middle School Explorers is to
help in the fight against poverty by engaging
community involvement.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

There is no such thing as a bum!

What are we doing?

We are seeking to continue expanding our education by adding
a mandatory service project.
This year we will like to use service as our way to help in the
fight against poverty. Through The Healing Place, we will be
hosting our 1st annual Poverty Project Drive.
The drive will be held from Thursday, May 19, 2016
through Friday, June 3, 2016 at Leesville Road Middle
School.
Each class will be responsible for collecting as many of the predetermined items as possible by the due date. Items will be
collected and stored in a bucket located in Mr. McCaskills room.
100% of the items collected will go towards The Healing
Place. On Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. Mr. McCaskill
and Mr. Burton will be delivering the items to the
facility. Students are encouraged, but not required to be
present when we present the items!

Getting EVERYONE involved

We understand many people see the
importance of this cause yet do not want
to actively participate. Thus we are
proposing that all donations are welcomed.
These donations will go towards helping
the Explorers in their community for a
cause that is greater than themselves.
Simply raising awareness is greatly
appreciated as well. Our official hashtag
for social media is:
#PovertyProject2016

The teams job

Our job as a team is to promote this drive.
We will make morning announcements and hang
up flyers around the school for items we need and
why homelessness is a problem!
We will get help from students, staff, family
members, local businesses, etc.
We will collect as many of the 46 items as
possible in an attempt to donate them to the
Healing Place.
On the day of the event, we will meet at LRMS at 9
a.m., load up a truck with all of our items, deliver
the items to the facility, & take a team picture.

The day of the delivery

You must arrive at the school NO LATER than
9:15 am.
We will be driving to the facility at 9:30 and
we would like for you and your parent to be
present.
Your parents will be responsible for driving
you to and from the facility (no bus).
Be mindful that we are going to a homeless
shelter so it is important to be on you best
behavior.
After donating the items, we will be finished.

Our attire that day

We are asking that ALL students and

teachers involved wear something that
says LEESVILLE on the front the day
we deliver the items. This is a Leesville
service project and we want to show
the great things our school is doing!

Our Goal
Our goal this year is to raise as much
awareness and donate as many
items as possible! Every little bit we
give will help! Each class will
compete to see who can donate the
most items the fastest.

IF YOUR CLASS RAISES THE

MOST/FASTEST
Each class will be competing to see
who can donate the most items the
fastest.
If your class donates all the items
the fastest, I will buy the class
pizza, cake, and ice cream.
