mentors,andadvocatesofthesafeandsecureapplicationofchemistrytobenefithumankindand
preservetheenvironmentforfuturegenerations.Theyshouldinstillandencouragecuriosityand
innovationearlyandoften,andrecognizeandawardachievementswhereappropriate.Finally,
chemistryprofessionalsshouldprovideprofessionalinputsandopinionstogovernmentandother
decisionmakersregardingindustrial,environmental,andotherissues.

Environment
Environmentalsustainabilityshouldbeanintegralpartofresearchandeducation.Chemistry
professionalsmustusetheirexpertisetoensurethesafetyandhealthofcoworkersandthecommunity,
andtoprotecttheenvironmentforfuturegenerations.
Chemicalpractitionersshouldworkwithintheirorganizationstohelpdevelopsoundenvironmental
plansandpolicies.Chemistryprofessionalsshouldencourageinclusionofenvironmentalsustainability
asakeyelementinchemistryinstructionandengagementwiththecommunity.
Chemicalpractitionersareresponsibletoensuretheproperuseanddisposalofchemicalsand
instruments.Theyshouldendeavortoincreasetheirknowledgeoftheshortandlongtermeffectsof
chemicalsontheenvironmentandtoapplyinformedqualitycontrolprinciples.

Researchinchemicalsciencesshouldbenefithumankindandimprovequalityoflife,whileprotecting
theenvironmentandpreservingitforfuturegenerations.Researchersshouldconducttheirworkwith
thehighestintegrityandtransparency,avoidconflictsofinterest,andpracticecollegialityinthebest
way.Researchshouldpromotetheexchangeofnewscientificandtechnologicalinformationand

ensurethatlaboratoriesandindustrialfacilitieshavethecapacitytosecurechemicals.Security
