and disadvantages of different forms of payments by the end of the
lesson with 80% accuracy.

strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning

LESSON FORMAT
Set/Statement of Objective
Tell students that today theyre going to be comparing and contrasting the
advantages and disadvantages of different forms of payments.
Input
1. Ask students to take out their JA BizTown Citizen Guides and Reflection Logs. In
their reflection logs, ask students to individually brainstorm any form of payment
that theyve seen people use at some point.
2. After about two minutes of writing, call on a few students to give some examples.
Possible examples: cash, checks, debit card, credit card, gift card, prepaid card
3. Point out that there are many different cards that can be used to buy goods and
services. At BizTown, students are able to pay with cash, checks, and debit cards
at different stores. Remind students that in order to use checks, most cards, and
other forms of payment, they first must have money in the bank.
4. Popcorn read pages 19 and 20 about the different forms of payment. Talk about
each type of payment with the students and answer any questions they may have.

Guided practice/checking for understanding


1. Complete page 21 using the information from pages 19 and 20.
2. Read Linneas story to the class and have them follow along on their registers on
page 22. Use the bolded information on the story to guide students through their
registers. Complete a register on the doc camera with them.
Closure
1. Have students open up their BizTown Reflection Logs and compare and contrast
cash and debit cards. They should give the advantages and disadvantages of both
forms of payment.
2. Reflection logs will be turned in and graded at a later time.
