Materials: stoneware clay, rolling pins, old construction paper, clay tools, small
cups, paper towels, glaze, brushes, kiln

Procedure/Learning Experiences:
1. Week 1: The teacher will review clay procedures and process from the year
before. There will be a demonstration on proper use of rolling pins with clay.
The teacher will guide the students through each step of creating a drape pot.
2. Students will receive clay paper, clay and a rolling pin. Students will pat their
clay into a pancake first, then roll the clay thinner on the paper.
3. The rough edges will be trimmed with a tool and smoothed out with water and the
students fingers.
4. Students will drape their clay slab over a small upside-down cup to dry.
5. The projects will be put on the counter to dry and later be fired.
6. Week 2: The teacher will demonstrate proper glaze technique. 3 coats of glaze
and not glazing the bottom of the pot.
7. Students will choose one color of glaze to apply to their pot. Taking care to apply
3 even coats.
8. The pots will again be fired.
