personal space, general space, and
boundaries and discuss why they are
important.

5.1 Identify the feelings that result
from participation in physical
activity.
5.2 Participate willingly in physical

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES ADDRESSED

Interpersonal- Students working with

others and knowing how to behave
respectably to each other
Intrapersonal- Students knowing
themselves and how much space they
may need to not bump into other
students.
Bodily- kinesthetic- Being able to
participate in locomotor activities.
Students knowing their limitationsWhat they are able and unable to do.

GOAL OF UNIT

Students will practice and learn different

locomotor skills.
MAIN OBJECTIVE OF LESSON

With different colored bean bags, students

will be able to identify and participate in four
different locomotor skills with %80 accuracy.

COGNITIVE, AFFECTIVE, AND PSYCHOMOTOR OBJECTIVES

COGNITIVE OBJECTIVES

Students will be able

to identify the
different locomotor
movements by name
Students will
describe ways to
create the appropriate
spacing to prevent
colliding with their
classmates.
Students will
recognize the
different movements
associates with each
colored bean bag.
(Yellow= skip,
Green= jumping,
Pink= hopping,
White= walking)

AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES

Students will respect

their classmates
individual
differences in skill.
Students will
respond to one
another with respect.
Students will accept
responsibility for
their own
performance without
blaming others

PSYCHOMOTOR OBJECTIVES

Students will
determine the
appropriate spacing
to avoid bumping
into each other,
between themselves
and classmates
Students will
demonstrate different
locomotor skills

ASSESSMENT
STRATEGIES FOR ASSESSMENT

A rubric will be created with the skills critical elements at the top of the chart and
students names down the side. The teacher will visually observe the students
performance and rate them as either beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
STRATEGIES TO MEET DIVERSIFIED LEARNERS

Hearing impaired- A visual is provided to students who are hard of hearing, so they
know which locomotor skill they are to do when they see the color of the bean bag.
MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, and/or TECHNOLOGY NEEDED

Colored bean bags

STEPS THROUGH THE LESSON

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)
Get the classes attention
If you hear me, clap once
If you hear me, clap twice
If you hear me, clap three times

INTO (set the stage; the hook, lesson objectives)

Ask students if they like recess; Ask if

they like exercising; Explain that the
two are very similar
Recess= free play
PE- Play with a purpose that is more
structured

This will get the students attention, as it

will be talking about something that they
enjoy (recess), and linking it to the
importance and fun of exercising

Both are good for your health

THROUGH (instructional input, modeling, checking

for understanding, guided practice)

Students will line up arm width apart

Students will stretch for about 30-45
seconds (quads, hamstrings, and
calves)
Each bean bag color identifies a
different locomotor skill (color key)
Skipping (yellow)- Is done with a
step and a hop using the same foot
Jumping (green)- Is springing on both
feet and landing on both feet (Land
with knees bent slightly)
Hopping (pink)- Springing on one
foot and landing on the same foot
Walking (white)
When the music starts, students will
grab a bean bag from the floor and
perform the locomotor skill as
identified by the bean bag
Remind them to be aware of their
own personal space
When the music stops, students will
place the bean bag on the floor and
grab a new color.
Students will randomly select bean
bags; preferably grabbing a color that
they have not yet grabbed
Students will be given a couple of
seconds after grabbing a bean bag, to
comprehend which skill they will be
doing.
Repeat steps, until each student has
done each skill at least once.

BEYOND (independent practice, further research)

Students will choose one

locomotor skill practiced in
the activity at home with
their parents/ guardians. They
will then write a short journal
about their experience.

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)

The activity will allow the teacher to

check for the students understanding
of the activity. Teacher can instruct
those who may need help with the
skills/ understanding the activity.
Teacher can observe and assess the
students while they are performing
these skills.

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)

Practicing with their parents/

guardians at home allows
students the opportunity to
show what they have learned,
which is good review for them,
and writing allows students to
share their experience
pertaining to the lesson.
