The Choral Program Vision

Purpose
To provide meaningful musical experiences that will inspire a love of choral music and lifelong musicianship
in our students.
Core Values
Musicianship: Students will be well-rounded musicians with knowledge of singing technique,

music theory, music history, and listening skills.

Collaboration: Students will effectively collaborate with their classmates by sharing in musical

experiences together.
Hard Work: Students will engage in challenging musical activities and discover that focus is fun

and produces results.

Expression: Students will express their emotions through the art of music and learn that great

art comes from integrity of expression.

The Future
In ten years, the Choral Program will be a thriving place of music learning. Students are excited to come to
rehearsal and learn more about music and singing. Every ensemble is filled to capacity with students who
are engaged and ready to learn. Students actively recruit their friends because they have so much fun in
choir.
The Choral Program gives concerts regularly for the school and our community. Audience members are
moved by our performances and attend them again and again. We sing a diverse range of musical styles
that keep audiences guessing and engaged. In addition to our concerts, we perform at choral festivals to
receive feedback, sharpen our performing skills, and connect with and hear other amazing choral groups.
Students look forward to these performing experiences as opportunities for growth and musical
development.
Our choir students pursue musical opportunities inside and outside of the Choral Program. Students feel
comfortable auditioning for solos in various musical styles. Students are inspired to learn other instruments
and participate in other music programs within the school, as well as take private lessons. Students use
the talents they have cultivated in the Choral Program to participate in Honor Groups and contribute value
to them. Students of our Choral Program are known state-wide for their excellence in singing and
musicianship.

Key Areas of Focus

Effective Curriculum: The Choral Program Director will develop a music curriculum that

addresses vocal technique, music theory, aural skills, and music history. The Director will select
diverse, developmentally appropriate repertoire and instruction in the techniques necessary to
perform that repertoire with integrity.
Parent Involvement: The parents of our choral students are supportive as audience

members and volunteers. They regularly give their time and money to help this program flourish.
They understand the value of music education for their students growth and development as
individuals. Parents offer a testimony to the impact that choir has on students lives.
Performances: Students will perform regularly at school, in the community, and at festivals.

This sharpens their performing skills and provides a challenge to work toward.
Student Leadership Team: The Choral Program will elect a team of Student Leaders that

exemplify personal and musical excellence. These students are the best and most dedicated
members of the Choral Program. The SLT will have duties and responsibilities that aid in the
growth and efficiency of the Choral Program, while gaining valuable leadership experience.
Extra-Curricular Musical Involvement: At least 50% of choir students will participate

in music and the arts outside of choir class. Examples include private lessons in singing or other
instruments, participating in music at church or other family gatherings, playing in band or
orchestra, performing in plays and musicals, and participating in honor groups. These extracurricular musical activities ensure that the skills students learn in the Choral Program are relevant
outside of the classroom.
Resources and Administrative Support: The Choral Programs vision will be

supported by the school administration through finances and thoughtful scheduling. The Choral
Program will thrive at a school that values arts education and provides the necessary resources for
the Program.
