TV Infotainment Show: Pitch & Treatment Criteria

This pitch and treatment assignment will be completed to help sell your idea for the Castlebrooke News Show we
will producing as a class.
Expectations:
Answer all the following questions in complete sentences
Make sure to provide enough information to justify full marks (ex: two complete sentences for two full marks)
This is an individual assignment to be completed in a typed Microsoft Word and/or Apple Pages document
Due: Start of period Friday, April 15
1.

Choose a working title of the show.

/1
The name of the show will be Dragon Tech because it will be a tech show. Still has the word Dragon in
it to retain the Castlebrooke Dragons naming scheme.

2.

Choose a genre for the show. (ie:

sports, entertainment, technology etc.)

/1

As mentioned in the last question, the theme for the show will be technology.
3.

Choose a format for the show which

details the following:
a.

Time duration of show? (5 mins, 30

mins, 1hr etc.)

b.

/1
Single or multiple camera production?

/1
Dragon Tech will be a weekly 90min long show. The reason for it to be spaced out is because it takes
Time for new technologies to be developed and if we released new episodes too often we may eventually
Run out of things to discuss. The long 90min timespan also helps compensate for its sparsity.

It will be a multiple camera production as there will be cameras that would be switched to in order to give
Different angles or perspectives of the set. Also, multiple cameras would be required for the different
Segments that the show will be composed of.
4.

Who are the target audience and age

demographic for the show?
etc.)

(ie: females age 13-18, males 13-18,

/2

The target audience and age demographic for the show will be males in their 20s and up. Mainly it will
target an older male audience because its content will mostly be review of new technologies and their
potential benefits or downfalls which may seem boring to a young audience.
5.

How many Hosts will the show have

(male, female, both)? Will there be any Reporters (ie; weather, sports etc.)?

/2

There will be two hosts who are tech experts and will be able to give professional insight on the viability of
new technologies. Their genders doesnt really matter in terms of how knowledgeable they are so they
could be either male or female. Their areas of expertise would be contrasting to provide different thoughts
on technologies from two different technological perspectives.
6.

Location(s) throughout the school (all

production will take place within the Castlebrooke school grounds) required for production of the show.

3
The show will definitely be recorded indoors and there will need to be some desks to put the tech on and
analyze. Really, any classroom would be perfectly reasonable for recording as there are really no special
requirements for filming but it would be easiest for it to be filmed in the recording studio. The obvious
reasoning for this choice is that cameras are already located there as well as lighting and other assets so
all of the facilities required for producing a show are there. It would not be filmed in front of the green
show though since it is no extravagant background is required for a tech show.
7.

Write a 3 paragraph show treatment

which details the following:
a.

1st - How will your show be unique

and capture the interest of your target audience?

b.

/2
2nd - Outline all the segments (max.

4 segments) that will occur in your show and who will represent them (ie: Host, Reporter etc.)
4

c.

3rd - How will you capture this show

on camera (ie: in studio, areas throughout the school, etc.)?

How will the show use

editing (ie: fast paced flow); sound (ie: upbeat vs. relaxed music)? How will your show use visual
graphics and font styles?

/7

The show will capture the attention of the target audience by showcasing innovative new technologies
that intrigue that technological community. Also, there will be a segment where the creators of those
technologies are interviewed and give their thoughts on the effects the new technology will have on the
market, its costs and so on. Also, the show will show how the technology will be used, what it is used for,
when it will be available for sale, where it will be available and so on.
The show will only have 2 segments partly due to its short length. The first segment will be when they
actually talk about the technology, how it will be used, costs, availability, and give their professional
insight on the product. The hosts will dissect the technology to show what it is made of and how it is
made. The second segment will be an interview or discussion with the creator of the technology so they
they can give their thoughts about its viability, how they conceived the idea, and so on. This segment will
just be in the form of a video call with them so there will not be any set change or different filming
location.
The show will be in the studio and no other locations will be involved. When the show starts the names of
both of the hosts will be edited in below them and then disappear after a few seconds just so that the
viewers can familiarize themselves with them. There will be short clips of background music when the
show starts and ends but no other music other than other that. It will be a moderate to slow pace with a
calm atmosphere and environment. There is really no need for it to be upbeat or fast paced because
it is a more serious type of show and targets an older audience. The main camera view will give the
overall coverage of the hosts and the set. When the hosts are taking a closer look at the technology and
dissecting its appearance or what it is made out of their will be another camera that will give a closer up
view of what is going on by zooming into it.
8.

Provide a rough show breakdown in

order that outlines all elements that will be included and played during your show (ie: show title, music,
graphics, host(s) intro(s), segments, host(s) extro(s) etc.)

/4

First when the show starts a short intro will be played and the hosts will fade in. At this time the
nameplates for the host will also come into vision below the hosts and disappear after a few seconds.
There will be a bit of background music that is played but then fades out. The first segment will then take
place where the hosts introduce what the piece of technology they are reviewing is. They will give all of
their thoughts on it, what the price is expected to be, how it works, what it is made out of, and in general
just give their professional opinion on it. Whether it will be popular or not and so on. Then the second

segment will start in which the creator of the technology is video called. His or her face will be displayed in
the top left corner as he is questioned and gives his opinion on he conceived the idea for the product,
when it will be released for sale, how much it may cost, and so on. Then the hosts will say their goodbyes
to the guest and conclude the show giving a general summary. They will fade out as credits fade in with a
black background. At this point mellow music also fades in and the show ends.
9.

Do you anticipate any problems with

creating this show and why.

/2

One possible problem that we could encounter in the creation of this show could be the funding for new
technologies. Getting the latest and greatest technologies to review is never cheap so it may cost quite a
bit. Also, we may not be able to get the creator of the technology in to interview, however, the one guest in
each episode does not necessarily always have to be the creator of the technology because it could also
be an expert in the field of that technology being reviewed. For example, if we review a new computer chip
and the creator is unavailable we can just have a computer expert on.
