GOURSE DESCRIPTION
GOURSE POLICIES
Attendance
All students are expected to have regular and punctual attendance in all classes.
A sign-in sheet will be provided. Partial class session attendances will also be
counted as absences. Three (3) absences will result in an administrative
withdrawal.
90-100=A
80-90=B
70-79=C
60-69=D
59 or below = F
Exams:
There will be three examinations during the semester. Each exam will cover
materials presented in lectures, assigned readings, handouts, videos, and guest
presentations. Each exam is 100 points.
Major Projects:
There will be several major projects during the semester. Please note that all
written assignments must be TYPED, DOUBLE-SPACED, AND PROOFREAD!
Mini Unit
Create a cross content lesson plan using a children's book as a starting point.
Decide on a target age, choose a children's book, create a concept web and four
activities, one in each of the following areas: Math, Science, Art, and Physical
Education. 100 points.
Classroom VisiVObservation
Lab Assignment
Visit an approved NAEYC accredited center. Complete the lab assignment form
and write a two-page summary of your findings. Discuss how the environment
supports or inhibits the child's development. This assignment MUST be
submitted or not grade can be given for the class. 100 points.
Activitv Fib
Develop a resource file of math and science activities appropriate for young
children. Create a total of 20 different activities: 10 that focus on mathematics
and 10 that focus on science. 100 points
Board Book
Bring a board book geared towards infants or toddlers to read to the class.
This book should have a math or science theme. This oral assignment cannot be
made up if you are not in class on this date. (25 points)
Song or Rhyme
Bring a photocopy of a math or science song, rhyme, or fingerplay
appropriate for children age 8 or younger. Be prepared to read or sing to the
class. Write your name on the copy to turn in for this assignment. These points
cannot be made up if you are not in class on this date. (25 points)
Recipe
Find one healthy recipe that would be appropriate for preschool children.
Create a rebus for it. Make a photocopy for each student in the class. Turn in
one copy of the recipe with your name. Be prepared to tell which math and/or
science skills children will use in the food preparation. (25 points)
Sequence Activity
Choose a storybook that has a clear and repetitive sequence of events.
Create a set of sequence cards from your story. Find an age appropriate child
and read the story. Ask the child to retellthe story and place the cards in order.
Write a summary paper of the experience including your assessment of the child.

Counting book
Obtain a counting book as mentioned in your text. Critique the book
you've chosen using the criteria in your text. Label your paper "Gounting book
Review" and include the title and author's name. Then number your paper 1-10
and address the criteria mentioned. (50 Points)
Software review
Locate one piece of computer software (math or science) that is labeled
for use with children no older than 8 years of age. Critique the software using the
criteria in your text. (50 Points)
