The Syrian refugee crisis impacts Austria more and more each day. It has
caused controversy between the Austrian people and the Austrian government. The
Syrian refugees have caused economic hardships on the Austrian government.
One resolution Austria have been working on, Austria has recently passed a
controversial new law that restricts the right of asylum. Austria has limited the total
number of refugees to 37,500 for 2016. Refugees will be rejected directly at the
border. To date, over 16,000 claims for refugee status have been received this year.
(Migrant crisis 27 April 2016)
11 million or roughly half of Syrias prewar population have fled their homes
seeking refuge. (Syrian refugee crisis issues: understanding controversy and
society.Abc-clio, 2016) There have been protests against Austrias recent resolution
regarding the control of the refugee crisis. The majority of Austria feel the refugees
deserve asylum. However, there are other groups that are against it and feel the
refugees should not live there for free. Austria is putting a cap on the amount of
support a family receives in the home. The Austrian government and the Visgard
group Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia- tightened borders due to the EU
failing to protect the outer borders. By these countries closing their borders it is
causing a domino effect of backlogged refugees in neighboring countries such as
Slovakia, Macedonia, Croatia and Serbia. The reason this situation is so chaotic
and challenging is the sheer number of refugees looking for asylum all at one time.

Although life in Austria is not without hardships, the Syrian refugees are
grateful for a safe place to live. There are daily frustrations from leaving their
homeland. Austria and its citizens continue to work together to come to an
agreement on the services the refugees should receive. The bottom line is that the
citizens of the world need to work together to help one another. And help refugees
to receive asylum 200, 000 Syrians have cost their lives in the process of refuge. So
far Austria has step up by providing health care from the Red Cross the Syrians also
received new shoes and raincoats for the weather conditions as they enter Austria
nearly every volunteer said they were help because there is no political leadership
in Austria most of the individuals in their opinion says the government is in a
management failure status on the other hands certain groups in Austria feel they
are going to lose its European and Christian culture by letting in Syrians in Austria.
