I will take up a few topics of last week that needs clarity. First, Dr.

Manoharans Q regarding spirit possession and more so amongst ladies in the

villages.
Before answering I would like to give a birds eye view of the mind. There are
3 minds which are differentiated by their roles. The unconscious mind that
takes care of two things. First it controls the strength or weakness of the
immune system and secondly it controls the automatic body functions like
heart beat, blinking of eyes etc; So we dont have much to do in this are
except support it with a healthy lifestyle.
The next is the conscious mind where all the decisions take place. This mind
is analytical, rational, has working memory, seat of will power and takes us
through a typical day. It is the acting mind. It occupies about 12 to 15 % of
our mind.
Next comes the all powerful subconscious mind. it can make you into
anything that you would like to be. Rich and famous, thin, happy or sad, it is
the real you. It occupies 80% of mind. This is the seat of our emotions,
habits, belief system, self preservation and permanent memory. But the
subconscious is also very lazy. It does not want to change. Also the sc mind
has no decision making capacity. It will do what it is programmed to do
through life experiences.
When we are born we come into this world with a self preservation
mechanism called the fight or flight and two inborn fears. The fear of falling
and fear of loud noises. All others are learned fears or programming.
Until the age of around 8 the individual has no critical mind. It is like a
sponge. It absorbs whatever is given.
Now in the village where women are not very much exposed to modern
information about mind they are brought up with strong belief system about
spirits, ghosts, dont go near darkness, listen to elders etc; In villages such
stories of spirit possession abounds. This re emphasizes and strengthens the
spirit belief system in their subconscious mind. Certain places of worship
and also the rituals performed by spirit release tantriks add to this belief
pattern. So during periods of long sickness, monthly cycles etc when the
bodys defenses are weak such programming easily get into the sc mind and

become permanent memory and a reference point. Also those who are
supposedly spirit possessed are kept at a distance and not troubled with too
much work. This becomes a secondary gain and a comfort zone for many.
There also could be real cases of multiple personality disorder, bipolar
condition, alter ego etc who exhibit extreme personality characteristics.
Such an image becomes the standard personality reference and anyone who
is supposedly spirit possessed or otherwise is expected to exhibit this
character.
So in reality the term spirit possession is just a label. What happens most of
the time is that the suppressed dil or mil takes in all the insults thrown
during waking hours without being able to retort. This hurt comes out as
venting dreams during sleep and the self talk comes out as a different voice.
Also if the person has some ear condition like tinnitus the noise is
interpreted as that of the spirit.
Also certain religious places like chotanikarai in kerala become spirit
release centres by word of mouth information over the ages. So one has to
be a skilled therapist to be able to distinguish the real from the fake. comes
through experience,

Before starting this relaxation programe find yourself a quiet undisturbed

place, keep out all pets, switch off phones, get hydrated by drinking a glass
of water and find comfortable chair to relax. Switch off lights or keep them
soft. Do not lie down. Wear loose clothes. If during the process i you need to
clear your throat, cough or sneeze pl do so and return back to the sound of
my voice. After making yourself comfortable in the chair, uncross your arm
and legs and hold this thought in your mind
I like these suggestions and I kow they will work for me. Keep your eyes
open.
So we begin.
