INTERNSHIP PLAN
PERFORMANCE-BASE ACTIVITES ADDRESSING ISLLC
STANDARD 1:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the
success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation,
implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and
supported by the school community.
1. Vision/Mission Building (Time Frame: 18)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 1 are:
* Participate in Administrative Team Meetings and be an active participant in all
meetings to develop and implement the vision and mission generated through the
meetings. I will also visit leadership team meeting once a month to gain knowledge of
the directions of the four leadership teams.
2. Strategic Planning (Time Frame: 16)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 1 are:
Be an active participant in all administrative team meeting designated to work
on proficiency-based learning.
3. Data collection and Analysis (Time Frame: 10)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 1 are:
In conjunction with the Data Specialist and other staff members, I will review
the RTI model and data collection in reference to early intervention.
Collect and review data on correlation between socioeconomic status and its
impact on educational performance.
4. Effective Communication (Time Frame: 10)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 1 are:
During IEP meetings inform parents of our transition into standards-based
IEPs.
Continue communicating with special education staff information gathered
during workshops from Doe, MADSEC, ADSEC, Drummond Woodsum, etc.
Discuss policies with educational technicians during weekly PLC time.
5. Negotiating/Consensus Building (Time Frame: 16)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 1 are:
Lead PLCs for the special education staff that will facilitate the transitions in

teaching, assessing, and aligning IEPs to CCSS.


Educate teachers on new standards-based IEPs.
Lead weekly Professional Learning Community for the educational
technicians.

STANDARD 2:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success
of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture
and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff
professional growth.
1. Analyzing the Curriculum (Time Frame: 6 hrs)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Continue assessing various curriculums that we are currently using and review
others that will allow students with disabilities the opportunity to show
proficiency on CCSS and NGSS.
2. Supervision of Instructional/Instructional Strategies (Time Frame: 20 hrs)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Attend workshops on the new teacher evaluation process and participate in
evaluating teachers with other administration.
Participate in creating a new evaluation process and form for the special
education technician position.
Participate in the evaluating of special education technicians according to
contracts.
3. Learning/Motivation Theory (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Research the use of motivational theory in education.
Provide information on motivation theory.
Research learning theory and effective strategies within special education.
4. Learning Technology (Time Frame: 5 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Research and share apps that can be utilized to teach students skills necessary to
eliminate gaps in core knowledge.
Provide training opportunities for special education staff for effective use of iPads
and laptops.

5. Evaluation of Student Achievement/Testing and Measurements (Time Frame: 3
hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Use assessment results to evaluate student progress.
Work with data specialist to interpret and effectively use evaluation results.
Provide time with special education staff to review measurement tools and
training for assessments.
6. Supervision of Extra/Co-curricular Education (Time Frame: 2 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Continue to work with various school staff to assure that students with disabilities
are given the opportunity to participate in extra/co-curricular education to the
same extent as their non-disabled peers.
7. Staff Development/Adult Learning (Time Frame: 24 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Continue disseminating information and providing professional development to
special education teachers (i.e. materials gathered during courses I am currently
taking, book studies, articles on standard-based education, etc.)
Continue to develop and implement professional development for educational
technicians during district workshops days and early release days.
8. Change Process (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Provide information to special education staff about motivational interviewing for
change.
Provide information to special education staff about change theory.
Work with superintendent, principals, and special education teachers to create
special education PLCs.
9. Student Discipline (Time Frame: 6 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Review new bullying policy and assist in the implementation within each school
building.
Gather and review background information pertaining to student discipline.
Work with a committee on reducing discipline infractions by increasing student
motivation with their academic setting.
Continue with Day Treatment program and look at possible ways to expand
within each building.

Provide training workshops by LCPCs on behavior management / prevention /


communication techniques.

10. Student Services (Time Frame: 2 hours)


Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 2 are:
Gather information on resources available to students and compile a list of such
resources into a pamphlet.

STANDARD 3:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success
of all students by ensuring management of the organization, operations,
and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
1. General Office Administration (Time Frame: 2 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Continue working with general office administration and supplying them with
necessary information they need to do their tasks effectively.
2. School Operations/Policies (Time Frame: 8 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Review current policies and attend Policy Review Committee meetings.
3. Facility and Maintenance Administration/Safety and Security (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Work with the Facilities Committee to ensure the safety of students by developing
clear evacuation plans.
Assist teachers in maintaining a safe environment and ensure that our students
with severe and profound impairments have plans in place to ensure their safety.
4. Student Transportation (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Hold periodical meetings with the Transportation Director to assist in the
implementation of strategies used during transportation.
Maintain frequent correspondence regarding any student that requires alternative
or supports with transportation.
Maintain correspondence regarding a student being transported OTC in Presque
Isle.

5. Food Services (Time Frame: 2 hours)


Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Hold periodical meetings with the Food Service Director to discuss dietary needs
of certain students needs and continue throughout the school year as student needs
change.
6. Personnel Procedures (Time Frame: 2 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Review current policies, contract, and job descriptions. Bring forth any concerns
to the superintendent regarding these district documents.
7. Budget Supervision (Time Frame: 10 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Conduct monthly reviews of my special education expenditures in relation to the
amounts accepted into the district budget.
Process all requisitions for special education expenditures and track orders.
Develop new special education budget for 2014-2015.
8. School/Program Scheduling (Time Frame: 2 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Meet with building principals to review current schedules and ways to improve
the schedules for the 2014-2015 school year.
9. Collaborative Decision Making (Time Frame: 3 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 3 are:
Continue meeting with the administrative team to review programming decisions
and effective ways for improving my leadership skills.

STANDARD 4:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success
of all students by collaborating with families and community embers,
responding to diverse community interests and needs and mobilizing
community resources.
1. Community/ Public Relations (Time Frame: 5 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient

engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 4 are:
Research resources available within the community to support parents of students
with disabilities and for students with a disability(s).
Invite professionals from community agencies to provide workshops as means to
educate personal and parents of resources available.
2. Parent Involvement (Time Frame: 6 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 4 are:
Educate parents on the transition into standards-based IEP during IEP team
meetings.
To assist with transition plans, provide opportunities for parents to meet with
support services from Voc. Rehabilitation and Adult Services programs.
Research what strategies and methods special directors of Maine use to involve
parents.
Assist in informing parents of the impact of moving towards proficiency-based
diplomas and answer questions during parent meetings.
Work with Maine Parent Federation to offer assistance to the parents within RSU
50 and neighboring communities.
3. Climate for Cultural Diversity (Time Frame: 12 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 4 are:
Gather information on the socioeconomic status of our district and the impact on
student academic performance.
Assist in informing staff of needs of cultural diversity and provide training on
topics for cultural diversity.
4. Community/Business Involvement and Partnerships (Time Frame: 3 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 4 are:
Attend community events to establish positive relationships and partnerships.
Establish a recognition and appreciation for businesses and community agencies
that provide work-study / internship opportunities for students who receive
services at RSU 50.

STANDARD 5:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success
of all students by acting with integrity and fairness and in an ethical
manner.
1. Position goals and Requirements (Time Frame: 2 hours)

Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 5 are:
Meet with the superintendent to evaluate my effectiveness at meeting my 2014-15
professional goals.
2. Philosophy/History of Education (Time Frame: 3 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 5 are:
Research and review special education practices and their effectiveness.
Meet with special education staff to look at trends and how they apply to the
current transition into standards-based educations.
3. Ethics (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 5 are:
Include the issue of ethics within the classroom during a special education staff
and educational technicians PLC meetings/trainings.
4. Interpersonal Relationships (Time Frame: 8 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 5 are:
Meet with special education teachers and staff members to assist in the
development of positive relationships within buildings.

STANDARD 6:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success
of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger
political, social, economic, legal and cultural context.
1. School Board Policy Procedures/State and Federal Law (Time Frame: 4 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Assure the school board policies are current with state and federal laws in respect
to special education.
2. Federal Programs Administration (Time Frame: 14 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Meet with my ADSEC team members monthly to discuss effective ways to
administer funds my district receives through federal programs.
Seek assistance from the Maine Department of Education as needed while I do the
reporting out of federal monies.

Attend DOE Listen and Learn trainings.

3. Issues and Conflict Resolution (Time Frame: 12 hours)


Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Assist special education personnel in resolving conflict among themselves and
other staff members.
Assist with any conflict in a timely manner.
Use and teach Solution Focus Brief Therapy strategies.
4. Current Issues Affecting Teaching and Learning (Time Frame: 18 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Continue taking courses, reading educational literature on current topics, and
providing time for discussions on current education trends.
5. Professional Affiliations and Resources (Time Frame: 28 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Be an active member of ADSEC and MADSEC.
Attend conferences and workshops offered from MADSEC,
DrummondWoodsum, and DOE.
6. Professional Library (Time Frame: 18 hours)
Specific activities, projects and/or events that I will engage in to demonstrate sufficient
engagement with this Sub-Category of Standard 6 are:
Read and discuss books that our district is purchasing for the effective transition
into standards-based education as well any other book-shares.
