    "Humanity I love you" By E.E. Cummings has an underlying theme of hatred towards humanity. This is shown through a very sarcastic tone which gives the reader a bit of insight into the mind of the speaker.     Thethemeofthispoemcanandwouldbeverydeceivingtosomeonewhomerely
    glancedacrossthetitleandthebodyofthepoem.E.E.Cummingswrotethispoeminalmosta
    completelyrhetoricalformsayingmanynegativethingsaboutsocietybutsayingitinawaythat
    soundspositive.Forexamplehesays,

    Thisstatementisverycontradictorytoitselfbecauseitissayingthathumanityisessentially
    ruiningthesecretsoflifewhichisnormallyperceivedasanegativestatementbutispreluded
    withthestatementHumanityiloveyou(line13)Thisreallyworkstoportraytheseemingly
    strongfeelingsthatthespeakerhastowardsthistopic.
    Thespeakeralsoplaysanirreplaceableroleinthispoembecauseitisbasedoffofhis
    verysarcasticandsomewhatcomicalpointofview.Thispoemalmostmimicsasatirebecauseit
    talksaboutarealproblembutinanalmostcomedicwaythatisengagingbutgetsthemessage
    acrosstothereader.Thespeakerofthispoemhasaverynoticeableattitudeandpersonathat

    Throughthenarrator,thispoemisabletoemphasizeamajorprobleminaveryinterestingand
    creativewaythatengagesthereaderandincludesamajorchangeinwordingtoexpressthesame
    feelingsattheend.
    Thispoemhasaverygradualshiftwhichtomanymayseeabruptbutifyoureallylook
    intothepoem,itwasbeingbuiltuptothewholetime.Atthebeginningofeveryotherstanzain
    thispoemitsaysHumanityiloveyou(lines1,4,17)whilecontinuouslystatingallof
    humanity'sproblemslikeIhavesaidmanytimesalready.Onthesurfacethespeakerissaying
    thattheylovehumanitybutyoucantellbythetonethatthatisnottheirtruefeelings.So,it
    comesasnosurprisewhenthelastlineofthepoemisihateyou(line25).Again,onthe
    surfacethiscouldbeviewedasaverylargeanddramaticshiftbutbylookingindeepertothe
    poemstruemeaningyoucanseethatitwasnotunexpected.Thatstatementwasjustmoreliteral
    thantherestofthepoemhadbeen.
    Thispoemcombinedawiderangeofemotionsallintoonesarcasticpieceofliterature
    thattrulyexpresseswhatneedstobefixedinsocietytoday.Howthepoemwasconveyedinsuch
    auniquewayreallykeptthereaderengaged.Thispoemstoneandthemegotthemajorfocusof
    thispoemacrossallwhilebuildinguptoashiftattheendwhichtiedallofthestanzastogether
    andtrulybroughtoutthemeaningofthepoems.
