Itisimportanttoinformchildrenatayoungagetheimportanceof
wholegrainconsumptionintheirdiet.Wholegrainscontainnaturalfiberthataidswith
digestionandbloodlipids.Wholegrainsalsocontainalowerglycemicloadwhichaidsin
controllingbloodsugarlevels.Childrenatyoungagesareoftenexposedto
advertisementsthatdirectthemtoeatalargeamountofrefinedproducts,whichcontain
unnecessarycalories.Also,thenewschoollunchprogramrequiresthatatleasthalfofthe
grainsservedarewhole.Thislessonwilldeveloptheabilitytorecognizeandappreciate
thehealthbenefitsofwholegrains.Teachingthemtheimportanceofwholegrain
consumptionearlyinlifecancreateapositiveoutcomeindietlaterinlife.

alsolearnthebenefitsofeachpartofthegrainkernelandhowhavingwholegrainsthat
