Sunday Sermon

a daily scripture guide

Week of June 6 June 11

Pentecost: The Sequel - June 5

MONDAY: Acts 10:1-48 Challenges
Peters strict understanding of food restrictions was challenged when he was
told that nothing God made was unclean. God sometimes challenges our beliefs
however honorable when our strict adherence to the law overshadows Gods
command to love one another.
REFLECTION: Have I ever been so attached to law that I neglected love and
acceptance?

Scripture: Acts 10:1-48(NRSV)

My Notes:

TUESDAY: Acts 10:1-48 Unifying belief

Peter accepted the change in understanding to which he was being led by God. The
faith he shared with Cornelius unified them beyond their social separations.
PRAYER: I pray that a unity of belief will replace any separation that might develop
from differences in thought and practice.
WEDNESDAY: Acts 10:1-48 Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
While Peter was speaking to the household of Cornelius and his friends, the Holy
Spirit poured down upon them. The Holy Spirit is poured upon us over and over as
bridges between us are crossed and our differences diminished.
CONSIDER: Consider how our world would be different if we welcomed the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all.
THURSDAY: 1 Samuel 16:1;4-13 Grief stagnates
Sauls time as King was over; yet, Samuel had been unable to move ahead. We
experience grief in life that is real and crippling. However, we cannot allow that
grief to stagnate our lives and prevent us from moving ahead to the life that God
intends for us.
REFLECTION: Have I allowed my life to stop because I have been so bogged down
by grief?
FRIDAY: 1 Samuel 16:1;4-13 Dont judge a book....
Samuel was perplexed that none of Jesss strong, handsome sons were chosen by
God. Gods choice was the youngest and most inexperienced son, David.
CONSIDER: Have I been tempted to form an impression based on appearance alone?
SATURDAY: 1 Samuel 16:1;4-13 Stepping aside
I wonder if the older brothers felt insulted when David was chosen to be King.
Sometimes our faithfulness to God is shown in our ability to step aside and let
someone else be used by God.
REFLECTION: Have I allowed my need to feel important to block someone else from
sharing their talents?
