Proposal
For my final major project I will be producing a music video for
the band The Strokes and their song Juicebox. My music video
is being produced for London Music Video Production Company
and I have a brief which will meet the specifications of the
company.
Content Outline
This is what my music video will look like:
The band (singer, drummer, bassist & guitarist) are performing
the song, this footage will be in a black and white effect. The
storyline, which the footage will be in colour, is that the band
members all go out to a pub and they all spot a girl that they all
find very attractive and they try and chat up the girl and they
all try and win her, she plays them all by flirting with each band

member individually and this ends up in them having a big fight

which ends up going outside. Whilst the fight is happening the
girl goes off with one the band members and the rest of the
band dont realise whilst they are fighting. They carry on
fighting and at the end of the music video they realise she has
gone and they stop fighting, however they are all very injured,
wounded and exhausted now because they have been fighting.
Then they see another attractive girl and they run after her and
then it freezes on them running.
Target Audience
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldb5p2pvQvk
This is a link to a recording of my focus group which shows how
I have researched the target audience and interviewed people
about what they think the target audience is for my music
video. From my research I know that the target audience is
mainly the fans of The Strokes, both male and females. The fan
base of The Strokes is mainly young people from teenagers to
people in their late 20s, so young adults. Ive made the content
of the production best suited to the target audience so that the
target audience can relate to the narrative. They will relate to it
because males would have experienced going out and trying to
chat up a girl they find attractive, or at least seen someone else
do it, as it is a fairly common scenario. The females wont all
necessarily be able to relate to it but they will find it amusing
and humorous to watch because the girl is in control of them
and makes them all fight. The socio-economic status of the
target audience is mainly group E because it will be mostly
students as it young people.

The band members also act as themselves in the narrative, as
well as performing the song.

Joseph Bartlett
I have selected Joseph Bartlett to be the lead singer and
guitarist of the band because Joseph is an actual lead singer
and guitarist of his own band and he has a lot of music
experience so I know him to be a good actor/performer for my
music video because he has real life experience. Joseph has
studied drama in school for 5 years and has a GCSE in it. These
qualities mean that he will look very convincing in miming the
performance of the song and also for the acting for the
narrative. I have used Joseph in past productions I have created
in the past such as an advert for Head & Shoulders and voice
acting for a trailer for a comic. From these productions he has
been involved in I know him to be reliable and hard working.
Josephs appearance also makes him a great candidate for the
role of the lead singer and guitarist because he has long hair,
which suits the genre of the music (rock) and he is tall so he
will stand out as the front man if stood in the front and in the
middle, he also dressed suited to the genre because his image
is similar to lots of rock and roll artists.
Hamish Campbell
I have chosen Hamish to be the guitarist and actor of the band
because he has experience of playing the guitar and Hamish
can play the riff for Juicebox so when performing the song it will
look very convincing. Hamish also has long hair, which the
strokes have, and has clothing which will be similar to what The
Strokes wear and other rock bands wear so he will comfortably
fit into the look of the band. Hamish has also studied drama for
5 years and has a GCSE qualification in drama as a result of
that. Hamish has also performed in live drama and dance
productions such pantomimes, school productions and various
dance shows, this means that Hamish will be able to perform
well and also for the fight scenes and acting he will be able to
be directed well and choreograph movement well.
Jack Stillman

965498@henleycol.ac.uk

I have used Jack for a music video production before and he

was reliable because he turned up on time and when he was
needed and he worked hard and he mimed the bass well and it
looked convincing. He also has the right style in the way he
looks for the character of the band member which I am looking
for. He has also acted in a music video I have previously made
so I know how well he can act because I have used him before.
Patrick Sadd
I have chosen Patrick to be the drummer because Patrick has a
lot of experience playing the drums and he is very skilled in
playing the drums so when he is performing the song it will look
very convincing and professional. Patrick also looks the part
because he wears clothes which you would associate with rock
music and his style fits in well with the genre of the song.
Patrick has also performed in a music video production of mine
and he was reliable so I know I can trust him to do the same for
this production. Patrick has studied GCSE drama.
Mollie Mountford
I have chosen Mollie Mountford for the role of the flirty girl
because she is a blonde girl about the same age as the other
actors she will be acting with so the character profile fits her. I
have used Mollie for previous productions in the past for acting
so I know she is reliable because she turned up on time and
worked hard and she could do as she was directed well. She
also has prior acting experience from performing in the
pantomime Dick Whittington.

I have chosen to do Idea 1 because the majority of my peers

have agreed that it is the best idea out of the two, as you can
see from the responses above. I also prefer the first idea
because it seems more interesting to make and the storyline
and the content will be stronger.

This shows how much time people spend on the internet. My
music video will be aired on the internet. Ofcom regulates

These links are from The Strokes Vevo channel and a music
video the Song Juicebox which I am also making a music video
for. It shows that the music video has over 11 million views and
you can tell from the ever increasing comments on the video
that it is still regularly being watched even after 7 years of the
video being up on YouTube.
The Strokes are a very popular band and when the band name
is typed into the search bar of YouTube, Juicebox is one of the
top results as you can see it is the 4 th video out of the many
there are on YouTube. This popularity of the original video will
help the publicity of mine because I will tag the video with the
same details of the original so that my music video will also
come up after or around the screen when the song is searched.
However my music video is unique because mine relates to the
lyrics more than the original music video because of the
narrative.

Another reason why I will place my music video on YouTube is

because when people watch the music video they will be more
likely to buy the song after theyve heard it so putting it on
YouTube is a good place for people to then go and invest in the
band. On YouTube there are also links to other songs by the
12

band when you are watching the music video so it promotes

the band. For example a song which is in the same genre as the
music video I am making is Mountain At My Gates by Foals. This
video has adverts at the beginning which generates money for
the artist for every view.

competitor for The Strokes are the band are The Killers because
they are also a rock band so they are in the same genre as The
Strokes and their music was also released around the same
time which was in the 2000s.
Both the music videos for Juicebox (The Strokes) and Somebody
Told Me (The Killer) were released onto YouTube at the same
time which was 2009.
