Theologian Reflection
I am glad to say that I am apart of the Roman Catholic faith. I love learning about my
faith and I also enjoy teaching it to others. I am apart of the Youth Ministries of Providence, and I
have gone to many retreats over the past three years, as well as lead some retreats with other
people. I have given talks about how scripture is important to understanding our beliefs, how the
Holy Spirit is our guide to becoming closer with God, and the obstacles that get in the way from
grace with God. I am also one of the leaders of my parish youth group, SS. John and Paul.
I used to not give much thought about my religion, my family never really went to church.
The one reason I started even going to church was because I was dragged out of bed on
Sunday morning by my grandfather once he moved in with us. I realised the importance behind
each part of the mass and grew to analyze the gospel readings and how they relate to my own
life.
One day, after the mass, a girl came up to me, she looked a tad younger than me with
red hair, I had no idea what she was going to talk or if there was somebody behind me that she
was going towards. I stared behind me and found that there was nobody in that direction. I
shifted my focus back to find she was about one foot in front of me and started to introduce
herself. Her name was Andrea and she saw that I was fairly attentive to what was going on in
mass, she wanted to know if I would be interested in going to one of the parishs senior youth
group meetings. I was hesitant but I took her up on the offer, although I guess during the
conversation I must have zoned out about what the youth group actually does, because I was
clueless. I went to this meeting at seven and to my surprise I knew most of these people prior to
the church. The girl from earlier was also one of the leaders of this group. Another surprise was
that she was four years older than I was. We talked about this retreat in the summer called
Steubenville East. First thing came to mind What is a Stupid-ville...? Well I was told that it was

a three day retreat at the U.R.I. campus with live music and other activities. But one thing we
needed to do before that time, we needed to raise the money.
Before I knew it, I was going to mass once, sometimes twice a week, and I was going to
the meetings every other Sunday. It was no longer just an obligation I had to make it every
week, but turning into the right I was given to go as often as possible. The months past and we
finally achieved the money it took to go to this all glorified Steubenville I heard so much about.
And the three days of hyped-up God concerts occurred. There was a whooping total of 3000
teens attending this main event of the year. But if anyone were to tell you the best part it would
be the adoration where the priest would take Jesus in the form of the monstrance, and go
around the stadium, but if you were to ask me the answer would be that I enjoyed the entire
thing. The entire experience taught me one thing most of all, and it was that we are not alone in
faith and that we are all joined together by prayer, worship, and love.
