Product Brief
To address the multi-service transport requirement on
Metro Area Networks (MAN) and reduce operation &
maintenance cost, Huawei launched next generation
SDH products, OSN 7500/3500/3500II/2500/1500.
Based on a unified platform design, OSN series
products can provide SDH/PDH/N*64K, Ethernet, ATM/
IMA, microwave, built-in WDM and SAN services
transmission solutions. OSN series products can
smoothly evolve to packet transport platform. OSN
7500/3500/3500II/2500/1500 brings significant cost
saving for carriers CapEx and OpEx through new highly
integrated ASIC chips, full compatibility in hardware and
software, ASON/GMPLS control plane and special design
for easy operation & maintenance.

Access

The OSN 7500 is a STM-64 OCS (Optical Core Switch)

designed for Metro core.
The OSN 3500 and 3500 II are STM-64/16 OEDs (Optical
Edge Device) designed for Metro core and edge.
The OSN 2500 is a STM-16/4 OED designed for Metro edge.
The OSN 1500A and 1500B are STM-16/4 compact CPEs
(Customer Premises Equipment) designed for the Metro
access.
OSN series products bring a perfect end to end solution
to the carriers from Metro core to access. (See figure 1)

Main Features
Multi-service Provisioning
To meet various service interface requirements on Metro
network, OSN series products have ability to access
a great diversity of services to simplify the transport
network. The OSN series products support a broad range
of services in a single platform including:
SDH services: STM-1(e/o), STM-4, STM-16, STM-64;
PDH services: E1/T1, E3/T3, E4;
N64K services: V.35, Frame E1;
Ethernet services: Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and
10 Gigabit Ethernet;
ATM/IMA services: 2M, 34M, 155M, 622M ATM, IMA E1;
Storage services: Fiber Channel, FICON, ESCON, DVB-ASI;
Microwave: single RF transport capacity from 4*E1 to
STM-1;
Built-in WDM: 2.5G, 10G and any rate service access
from 34Mbps to 2.7Gbps.

interoperability with legacy network:

End to end service provisioning across legacy and ASON

Permanent 1+1 feature to SNCP of legacy network with

path correlation;

ASON+VCAT+LCAS with guaranteed Ethernet

bandwidth and bandwidth utilization ratio.

Data Awareness Capability

Ethernet become more and more popular in metropolitan
area network. NGN, 3G/HSPA/LTE, Broadband access
and VPN all have requirements for Ethernet transport.
To meet these requirements, Huawei OptiX OSN
7500/3500/3500II/2500/1500 support powerful Ethernet
processing capability, which can provide EPL/EVPL/EPLn/
EVPLn services defined by ITU-T G.8011. The OSN series
product can also provide RPR (Resilient Packet Ring),
which comply with IEEE 802.17. Huawei optical products
have been awarded the Carrier Ethernet Certification from
the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF9 and MEF14).

Smooth Evolution
OptiX OSN 7500/3500/3500II/2500/1500 can smoothly
evolve to packet-oriented system just by changing the
cross-connect card. There is no impact on the existing

service during upgrade, and the previous hardware and

service configuration will stay unchanged. Besides, the
Ethernet service in EOS package can be separated from TDM
plane and enter packet plane by using SDH bridge card.
Hence, the TDM plane and packet plane are connected.
Smoothly evolve to packet-oriented system just by
changing the cross-connect card without service
interruption;
Support hierarchal QoS to meet service SLA
requirement;
Support packet service protection like 1+1 and 1:1 LSP
protection;
Support IEEE 1588v2 and Synchronous Ethernet;
Support hardware based OAM mechanism.

OptiX OSN 7500/3500/3500II/2500/1500 is based on a

unified software/hardware platform. All the software and
service cards are compatible among various products,
which greatly reduce spare parts as well as maintenance
cost. Unified product series can also shorten the time of
network deployment and training.

various kinds of LH transport solution such as FEC, REG,
ROPA (Remote Optical Pump Amplifier) and Raman.
FEC improves OSNR tolerance which enables long
distance transmission;
REG provides cost-effective electrical regenerator
solution for STM-16/STM-64 LH transmission;
ROPA enables 70dB single hop transmission;
Raman enables 68dB single hop transmission;
ROPA + Raman enable 80dB single hop transmission.
