Economy and Harmony

Marketing strategy:

The strategy is to make the message positive and uplifting. Angry politics can turn people
off to politics, and we need to get as many people on board as possible. The logo, and the
way the information is presented, needs to be presented in a concise and easy to
understand manner. The tagline will be Economy and Harmony to emphasize the
economic positives of a socialist system as we see it, and of the social positives that come
with promoting harmony and acceptance between people. If this party gets off of the
ground, I am willing to make a website for it.
Our meetings will happen through online, likely through Skype. This way people do not
have to pollute and spend time traveling to a location for something that can be done
online. The public transportation system in Indiana isnt that good, so getting to places is
hard because of this too.
We should promote shared positions that people like in the Republican Party have (limited
federal government being a main one), as well as catering to the people on the left who
have been basically ignored by Democrats and Republicans. There are way too many
conservative Democrats who run, the voter participation is some of the lowest in the
country, and Bernie Sanders won the Democratic primary in the state. I think that this all
indicates that there is an opportunity for this party to thrive in Indiana.

Political strategy:

This needs to be a grassroots effort, and people need to primarily focus on getting local
positions. If we cant win local positions, and dont have support at the local level, we cant
realistically win anything at the state level without the initial local support. Where is state
level support supposed to come from without local support? The main focus will be city

based positions, with primary focus on counties where Bernie Sanders won the primary
vote.

The gatekeeping office of secretary of state will be the only statewide position we will run for,
since when we get this position, this can open the gates to allow easier access for our candidates
to get on the ballot in the future without a lot of signatures. We will not run federal candidates for
a long time. We need to dominate local and state-wide politics as much as possible. Without the
support first from local grassroots campaigns, and state level campaigns, we cant realistically
expect to win a federal seat without first dominating local and state level political positions
enough to be a massive force in the state.
For the secretary of state position, the plan is to run candidates people need to run for secretary of
state as part of the Indiana Socialist Party, Democratic party, and Republican party. The ones who
run for the Democratic and Republican offices will try to win in the primary. The secretary of state
is a gatekeeper position, and if we get a candidate on a major party ballot for that, we will drop
our candidate and put our full support to that candidate. If we have someone run as a secretary of
state from the Indiana Socialist Party, we need to get 5% of the vote (give a more solid number to
give perspective, like the last secretary of state elections) in order to be on the statewide ballot
without needing to go through the process of getting signatures. We should not run for any other
state positions until this goal has been achieved, and we need to hold on to this position as well
once we get it to keep from reversing progress.

Positions:

We are for a proportional representation system in state congress. This system will use the
DHondt method (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%27Hondt_method) and will be on a
county by county basis. The math to allocate the number of seats per county will be the
same equation that the federal government uses to allocate congressional seat numbers
to states. This will also get rid of state-level gerrymandering, and allow people to have a
fairer amount of representation in state congress.
We are for free trade. We also want states to be able to negotiate their own free trade
agreements with other countries.
We will base a good portion of our positions on the Nordic Model, with an emphasis on
state ownership of utilities, healthcare, and other public services. The heads of these
services will be elected by the people of Indiana in statewide and local races to serve the
people. Private healthcare facilities will be allowed in this model like it does in most (or all)
social welfare model countries. In the specific case of utilities, the private monopolies can
end up screwing people over (like the high price of electricity from Vectren for Evansville
residents). Private businesses for most other areas are of course allowed and encouraged,
and Indiana can be an attractive place to set up a business under the system of the Indiana
Socialist Party. A main reason is that since the state covers health insurance, the
companies will not need to cover the otherwise expensive health insurance costs. If we

have good public transportation in Indiana this will attract more people, since it is usually
cheaper to use public transportation than owning a car. Along with Indianas tendency to
be a low cost state due to its proximity to resources, making it so that people dont need
to have a car can potentially turn this state into one of the best places in the country for
businesses and disposable income.
We are for socially liberal pro-freedom positions on social issues.
We are for protecting the environment, and with a state-owned utility entity, we want to
work to fund renewable energy generation and help create green economy jobs in
Indiana.
We are for a smaller federal government in regards to taxes to allow the states who want to enact
a socialist system to do so. Can you imagine how much harder Swedens or Denmarks system
would be to keep up if they had to pay up to 35% of income tax to the EU? This is a federal system,
and not a unitary system like most countries closer to socialist ideals. The most realistic way a
socialist state can happen is at the state level, not the federal level.
