Reflection V

The case of Trent revisited

In this article it discuss how Jo is able to use her fellow classmates and peers
to gain more perspective on the situation that her client faces. Having opinions from
others can be helpful, as Social workers we are constantly growing. Social workers
are also learning new skills and techniques and it can be very useful to use others to
learn from. For Jos field placement her class mates have a support group where they
can discuss with each other their cases. Jos peers suggested several new points to
her case that can be useful to help Jos client. Someone suggests that it may not be
any individual reason for Trents situation, but rather a combination of everything.
Trent is experiencing a lot all at once and may need more time to adjust. It was also
suggested as a solution to break down his behavior goals into specific behaviors. Jo
broke down Trents behaviors in to sub categories and then could target these to
specific behaviors for Trent. After discussing this with her Teacher and Teacher aide
Jo could create a more specific behavior plan for him. They were about to use this
plan and then continue to help Trent as well as monitor his behaviors for eight
weeks to track his progress.
No Mad Dog Looks: Group work and mediating differences
In this Article it is based on the problem solving of Sandy Townsend who was
called to a Middle school by its principal about a group of girls who were having
difficulty getting along. Sandy was able to gather some information about the girls
and the situation at hand. She then decided that the previous attempts at individual
interventions had not been successful that she would like to gather a group, and try
this approach. With the girls not getting along she thought it best to confront this
head on and to gather the girls to discuss their issues. A few things that she needed
in order to begin wit this was establishing a group, establishing a groups purpose,
assessing potential sponsorship and membership, contracting group procedures and
environment (Duncan). In this situation there was a positive outcome the group
came together to gain mutual respect for one another and to follow their
agreement.
Sallys Saga
In this Article Charles M. Young discusses how Sally evolves as she is in her
field practicum. Sally has expectations before she begins and feels slightly let down
after she arrives, by the attitudes of some of the fellow probation offices. Sally is
able to confront this and discuss it with her peers. After just completing my first
experience with this, I can understand how difficult it can be to adjust. My field
placement was very welcoming and supportive through my learning process. I can
understand Sallys disappointment with her experience, although I think that even
negative experiences can offer lessons to be learned and I believe Sally did that as
well.
