In this article it discuss how Jo is able to use her fellow classmates and peers to gain more perspective on the situation that her client faces. Having opinions from others can be helpful, as Social workers we are constantly growing. Social workers are also learning new skills and techniques and it can be very useful to use others to learn from. For Jos field placement her class mates have a support group where they can discuss with each other their cases. Jos peers suggested several new points to her case that can be useful to help Jos client. Someone suggests that it may not be any individual reason for Trents situation, but rather a combination of everything. Trent is experiencing a lot all at once and may need more time to adjust. It was also suggested as a solution to break down his behavior goals into specific behaviors. Jo broke down Trents behaviors in to sub categories and then could target these to specific behaviors for Trent. After discussing this with her Teacher and Teacher aide Jo could create a more specific behavior plan for him. They were about to use this plan and then continue to help Trent as well as monitor his behaviors for eight weeks to track his progress. No Mad Dog Looks: Group work and mediating differences In this Article it is based on the problem solving of Sandy Townsend who was called to a Middle school by its principal about a group of girls who were having difficulty getting along. Sandy was able to gather some information about the girls and the situation at hand. She then decided that the previous attempts at individual interventions had not been successful that she would like to gather a group, and try this approach. With the girls not getting along she thought it best to confront this head on and to gather the girls to discuss their issues. A few things that she needed in order to begin wit this was establishing a group, establishing a groups purpose, assessing potential sponsorship and membership, contracting group procedures and environment (Duncan). In this situation there was a positive outcome the group came together to gain mutual respect for one another and to follow their agreement. Sallys Saga In this Article Charles M. Young discusses how Sally evolves as she is in her field practicum. Sally has expectations before she begins and feels slightly let down after she arrives, by the attitudes of some of the fellow probation offices. Sally is able to confront this and discuss it with her peers. After just completing my first experience with this, I can understand how difficult it can be to adjust. My field placement was very welcoming and supportive through my learning process. I can understand Sallys disappointment with her experience, although I think that even negative experiences can offer lessons to be learned and I believe Sally did that as well.
