Pulse Locations (Main Arteries)

NOTE: When palpating for a pulse. Do not use your thumb. There is a
pulse in your thumb & it can throw off your calculating the pulse rate.
Carotid Artery (Pulse): The Carotid Artery is an inch or so from the
windpipe under the jaw.
Brachial Artery (Pulse): The Brachial Artery is located an inch or two
from the armpit between the bicep & tricep muscle.
Radial Artery (Pulse): The Radial Artery is an inch from the palm hand
on your wrist. You'll find the pulse on the thumb side of your wrist.
Femoral Artery (Pulse): The Femoral Artery is in the crease between
the lower pelvic & upper thigh, where the lower abdominal quadrant
joins the leg. You should feel the pulse in crease. If not. Feel around in
that area. You will find it.
Popliteal Artery (Pulse): The Popliteal Artery branches off form the
Femoral Artery. Its located opposite the knee in the back of the leg.
Dorsalis Pedis Artery (Pulse): The Dorsalis Pedis Artery run on the
top of the foot. Two to three inches from the knuckle of the big toe
(Hallux).
Posterior Tibial Artery (Pulse): The Posterior Tibial Artery can be
found 1.5 inches behind the ankle towards the back of the foot.
