comeeasilyforme.AndthatisaprayerHehasbeenveryfaithfultoanswer[laughter],becausenomatter
howlongIdothis,nomatterhowmuchofitI'vedone,Icometoanysettinglikethiswithasenseoffearful,
awesomeresponsibilityandweightandneediness,dependenceontheLord.
AndIthinktherearenosweeterwordsthatwecansaytotheLordmaybetotellHimweloveHimis
certainlysweet,totellHimthatwepraiseHimbutalsotosay,"IneedYou."BecausewhatdoesGoddofor
needypeople?WhatdoesGoddoforthehumble,thosewhoknowtheydon'thavewhatittakes?Godpours,
what?Graceonthehumble.
AndwhatisGod'sgrace?It'sthedesireandthepowertodowhatGodhascalledustodo.
SoaslongasIthinkIcandothis...IsometimeshavethesensethatGod'ssittingupinheavengoing,"You
thinkyoucandothis?Goaheadtry."Infact,it'snotjustthat.Goddoesn'tjustleaveusalone.Whenwe
becomeselfreliantorproudorthinkthatwecanhandlethis...whatdoesGod'sWordsayHedoestoproud
people?Heresiststhem.ThatwordisHesetsHimselfinbattlearrayagainstthem.
NowIdon'tknowaboutyou,butIdon'twanttodowhatGodhascalledmetodowithGodworkingagainst
me.He'sbiggerthanIam.ButHepoursgraceintothehumble.
Sodon'tletthefactthatyoufeelinadequateandneedykeepyoufromdoingwhatGodhassetyouapartto
do.Butdoitwithaspiritofhumilityandalwaysthisconstant,conscioussensethat,"Icannotdothiswithout
You.Everyhour,IneedYou.Everymoment,everydayforeverytask."
IcannottellyouhowmanytimesI'vecometoaministryassignment,smallorlarge,ontheplatformoroff,
andthought,Ican'tdothis.Icannotdothis.Lord,IneedYourgrace.IneedYourpower.IneedYour
strength.IneedYourHolySpirit.
"That'swhatIwashopingyou'dask."AndthenHecomes,Hefills,Heanoints,Heempowers,andHe
enables.
Andwhogetstheglory?Wecan'ttakeitbecauseweknow,"Ididn'tdothis.Icouldn'tpullthisoff.Iwasn't
smartenough.Iwasn'tgiftedenough.Iwasn'treadyenough.GodistheOne."
Westandbackinawe,andwegiveglorytoHim,andthat'swhatHedeserves.
Iwanttokindofpickuponthatthemeinatwopartmessagethisafternoonandevening.Andletmestartby
readingaversefrom1Thessalonians1.Infact,ifyouhaveyourlittlehandouthere,ifyou'llopentothis,this
willbeusefulforyouinthissessionandtheonetonight.
TheapostlePaulsaidtothebelieversinThessalonica(Thessaloniki,astheysayitinGreece),"Ourgospel
cametoyounotonlyinword,butalsoinpowerandintheHolySpiritandwithfullconviction"(v.5).
NowtherearemanyothersuchversesintheScripture,butwhenIreadaverselikethat,somethinginme
getsreallydeeplonging.
Hesays,"Wepreachedthegospel.Thegospelispowerful.Wepreachedthegospeltoyou,notonlyinword.
Notjustwords."

Haveyoueverheardteachersthatyouthought,Thisisjustwords.It'sgoodstuff.It'struestuff.Thesubjectis
powerful,butwhat'shappeningintheroomandinthelistener,it'sjustwords.It'sinoneear,outanother.It's
nothavingimpact.It'slikejustslidingoffaTeflon.It'snotmakingadifference.
Nowtherecanbealotofdifferentreasonsforthat.Sometimesit'sintheconditionofthehearer.Sometimes
it'sintheconditionofthespeaker.ButPaulsaysthere'sanalternateway."Ourgospelcametoyounotjustin
word."Itdidcomeinword.Therewerewordsusedtocommunicate.Buthesaiditalsocame"inpowerand
intheHolySpiritandwithfullconviction."
I'vedonealotofthinkingnowin,literally,fiftyyearsofteachingtheWordfortynineyears.Itoldthe
womenthismorningthatItaughtmyfirstSundayschoolclasswhenIwaseightyearsold.Thatteacherlet
medothat.Idon'tknowwhatshewasthinking.ButIwashooked.IknewIlovedGod'sWord,andIfound
thatIlovedteachingtheWordofGod.
I'vedonealotofthinkingaboutthedifferencebetweenministrythatis...thisministrymaybelarge
audiences,platform,butitmaybejusttheministryyouhavetoyourchildreninyourhome,indiscipling
oneonone,andcounselingothers.HoweverGodhascalledyoutocommunicatetruthtoothers,the
differencebetweenministrythatisonlyinwordandministrythatisinthepoweroftheHolySpirit
andwithfullconviction.AndIthinkthatdifferenceiscriticalinourday.It'scriticalineveryday.
IwanttotalktoyouthisafternoonandthiseveningaboutaneglectedaspectofministeringtheWordto
others.Iwanttouseatermthatyoudon'thearveryofteninourevangelicalworldtoday,andsomeofthe
wayswe'vehearditusedinsomecircleshasnotbeeninabiblicalsense.It'sthewordanointing.The
anointingoftheHolySpirit.
Iwanttotalkaboutthedivineanointing.Iwantustotaketimetoconsiderwhatitis,whatitmeans,whyit's
important,whatitlookslike,andhowwecanhaveit.
AswethinkaboutanointingintheScripture,it'susedindifferentways.Sometimesit'susedjustasamarkof
hospitalityasahostwillanointhisguests.YoureadthisinLuke7.YoureaditinPsalm23,"Heanointsmy
headwithoil,"asGodistheultimatehostwhoanointsourheads.
Butwhereveranointingisdone,youseethesymbolofoil,anointingwithoil.Youreaditmanydifferent
timesintheScripture.ThatoilisasymboloftheHolySpirit.AndthroughouttheScripture,theanointing
withoilimpartedsomethingthatthepersondidnothavepriortobeinganointed.
Theanointingwiththephysicaloilimpartedanendowment,anenduement,anempoweringoftheSpiritof
God.Sothatperson,onceanointed,becamesomethingthattheyweren'tpreviously.Theybecamedifferent.
Therewasapower,therewasaresource,therewasaconviction.ItwastheHolySpiritcominguponandin
andfillingandusingthatpersoninawaythathadnotbeentruepreviously.
Nowwewouldhavetohavealotmoretimethanwehavetodaytogointoallthetheologicaldistinctionsof
allofthat,alltheprecisionsoftheOldTestament,theNewTestament,andhowtheHolySpiritworkedthen
andnow,andsomesimilarities,somedifferences.I'mnotgoingtoparseallthat,butIwantustothinkabout
thisthingofwhatitmeanstobeanointedwiththeHolySpirit.
ThroughouttheScripture,theanointingofoilsignifiesconsecration,preparationforservice.It'sanenabling,
anempoweringtoservetheLord,todowhatyou'vebeencalledandsetaparttodo.
SometimesintheScriptureinanimateobjectswereanointedwithoil.Thingsinthetabernacle,thingsinthe
temple,thepiecesoffurniture,theinstruments,thetoolsthatwereusedinworshipsometimeswereanointed
withoil.Whatthatmeant,simply,wasthatthisotherwiseordinaryitemwasnowsetapart.Itwas
consecrated.ItwassetapartforGod'sservice.Itbecameunusual.Itbecamedistinctive.Itbecamedifferent
becauseithadbeenanointedwithoil.
Butmoreoftenthaninanimateobjectsbeinganointed,peoplewereanointed.AnointedforGod'sservice.
ThatanointingwithoilbecameanevidencethattheyhadbeendivinelycalledandenabledtoserveGod.It
wasanevidenceofdivinecallingandenablingforatask.

Thisissomethingyoucan'tdowithouttheHolySpiritofGod.Sotheanointingwithoilsymbolizedthatan
innerworkoftheHolySpiritcomingupon,filling,andenablingpeopletodosomethingthattheyotherwise
couldnothavedone.
Thisanointingwithoilbestowedauthorityandboldness.Andthisiswhatsettheministryortheserviceapart
asbeingdistinct.AndIbelievewehavetoday,inthechurch,menandwomenministeringinahostof
differentways,doingGodordainedtasks,beingcalledandsetapartbyGodtoserveHim,butdoingit
withoutaconscioussenseoftheanointingoftheHolySpirit.Andwhatwegetiswords.Wegettasks.
Butwedon'tgetthepoweroftheHolySpiritofGod.
Whydoweseethousandsandthousandsofchurchesandpastors,preparingandpouringouttheirhearts
weekafterweekafterweek,andpeoplesittinglikebumpsonalog,noevidenceoftransformationorchange
oraweorwonderorpoweroranything?
Myheartgoesouttotheaveragepastorwho'sspeakingtopeoplewhodon'tlooklikeitmatters,likethey
care.Soit'shohum.Weheartheseamazing,glorioustruths,butthere'snopower.Whyisthat?Whyisitso
ofteninourownministries?Whydoyoufeelthissometimesinyourparenting?Whydoyoufeelit
sometimesinservingtheLordasawife?InservingtheLordasadiscipleroraworshipleaderorasmall
groupleader?Whydoyoufeelsometimesit'sjustwords?
Maybeit'sbecausewehaven'tidentifiedtheneedfortheanointingoftheHolySpiritofGodinwhateverHe
hascalledustodo.
IntheScripture,intheOldTestament,theanointingwasusedtosetpeopleapartforthreedistinctoffices
thatofprophet,priest,andking.Priestsandkingsalmostalways,prophetsoccasionally,wereanointedwith
oiltoindicatethattheyweresetapart,theywereconsecratedforGod'sservice.Andthisiswhatmadetheir
servicedistinct.
YoureadaboutthisallthroughtheOldTestamentLeviticus,Exodus,Deuteronomy.It'sfascinatingtogo
throughandseewhathappenedwhentheseprophets,priests,andkingswereanointedwithoil.
Letmejustgiveyouoneillustration.In1Samuel16,theprophetSamuelwassenttoanointDavidasthe
kingofIsrael.Andthenverse13tellsus"Samueltookthehornofoilandanointed[David]inthemidstof
hisbrothers."
Hewassetaparthewasoneofeight,andhewassetapart.Theyoungest,theleastlikely,themostordinary
one,theleastqualifiedone,asfarasmostpeoplewereconcerned.ButGodsaid,"He'stheone,and
demonstratethis.Here'stheevidence:anointhimwithoil."WhichSamueldid.
Andthenitsays,"AndtheSpiritoftheLORDcamemightilyuponDavidfromthatdayforward"(v.13).
AndIreadverseslikethat,andIthink,OhLord,I'mnotaking.I'mnotapriestinanOldTestamentsense.
(WeareinaNewTestamentsense.)I'mnotaprophetinanOldTestamentsense.ButIamyourservant,and
howIwouldloveforyourHolySpirittonotonlybeinme(asHeisineverybeliever),buttofillmeandto
comemightilyuponmeandtousemeinwaysthatIcouldnever,everdoapartfromthatdivineanointing.
Sotheseprophets,kings,priestsweresetapartforGod'sservicebybeinganointedwithoil.Andtheywere
calledtheLord'sanointedones.TheHebrewtermthereismashiach.Mashiachtheyweretheanointed
ones.
Rememberin1SamuelwhereDavidrefusedtotakethelifeofKingSaulbecausehesaid,"HeistheLORD's
..."what?"TheLORD'sanointed."SamuelhadalsoanointedKingSaulwithoil.Nowhedidn'tdoavery
goodjobwiththelivinguptothatcalling,butDavidsaid,"HeistheLord'smashiach,anointedone."
TobemashiachssymbolizedbeingchosenandcommissionedbyGodforanofficeorataskandthenfilled
withHisSpirittofulfillthatcalling.
Thewordmashiach,intheHebrewlanguageisrenderedinEnglish,what?Messiah.Youknowthatword.
OnetheologianhassaidthatthisisoneofthemostimportantwordsintheOldTestament.

Anotherhassaidthatit'sthegreatestwordintheHebrewvocabulary,thatitexpressesthecentralconceptof
Jewishtheology.
Why?What'ssoimportantaboutthiswordmashiach,anointedone,Messiah?
ThroughouttheOldTestament,Godpromisedtherewouldonedaybeafutureleader,onesentfromGod,
oneanointedwithHisSpirit,theultimateprophet,priest,andking,whowoulddeliverGod'speople,
establishHiskingdom,andruletheworld.TheMessiah.
Andtheprophets,thepriests,thekings,thepeople,theywaitedontheedgeoftheirseats...untiltheygot
tiredwaitingfortheMessiah.
AndthenyoucometotheNewTestament.TheGreekcounterparttotheHebrewwordmashiach,anointed
one,isthewordChristos:JesusChrist.
NowChristisnotJesus'lastname.It'satitle.Whatdoesitmean?JesustheMessiahMashiach,the
AnointedOne.
AllthoseOldTestamentanointedoneswerejustpointingtoGod'sultimateAnointedOneJesuswhofills
allthreeofficesperfectly:Prophet,Priest,andKing.
Andsoweread,prophetically,inIsaiah61,andthenfulfilledintheNewTestament,"TheSpiritoftheLord
GODisuponme,becausetheLORDhasanointedme(Mashiach,Messiah,God'sAnointedOne)tobring
goodnewstothepoor"(v.1).
AndsowethinkofJesus,HeisGod,sowesay,"OfcourseHecanministerinthefullnessoftheHolySpirit,
HeisGod!"ButHecameinhumanform,recognizingHisneedasamanformashiach,anointingwiththe
poweroftheHolySpiritinordertoproclaimgoodnewstothepoor.
HewastheonetowhomallthoseOldTestamentofficespointed.It'samazing,butthat'snotall.Here'swhatI
thinkisjustasamazing,andthatisasNewTestamentbelievers,wehavebeengiventhegiftoftheSpirit
bytheFather.ThesameFatherwhogaveJesus,anointedHimwiththegiftandthepoweroftheHoly
Spirit,hasgivenHisHolySpirittous,tobeinus,tofillus,toanointus,toempowerusforservice.We
serveasGod'sanointedones,filledwiththeSpiritofJesusChrist.
"YouwillreceivepowerwhentheHolySpirithascomeuponyou,andyouwillbemywitnesses"(Acts1:8).
There'saconnectionbetweentheHolySpiritandpower,enablingtodotasksthatwecouldnotdoapartfrom
Him.
SecondCorinthians1:"ItisGodwhoestablishesuswithyouinChrist,andhasanointedus,andwhohas
alsoputhissealonusandgivenushisSpiritinourheartsasaguarantee"(vv.2122).
Wereadin1John2,andI'mjustgivingyoualittlesampling,atasteofsome...andthisisallintroduction,
bytheway...atasteofScripturalpassagesabouttheanointing.In1John2,theapostleJohnsaystothe
childrenofGod,nottosomespecialclergy,hesays,"Littlechildren(childrenofGod)youhavebeen
anointedbytheHolyOne.TheanointingthatyoureceivedfromHimabidesinyou."Andhetalksabouthow
thatanointingguardsfromerrorandguidesintotruthandthenenablesservice.
MartinLloydJoneswasapreacherofapastgenerationwhogotthis.Hebelievedinthedivineanointing,the
unction,assometimesit'sbeencalled,oftheHolySpirit.Hetalkedaboutthepenetrationanddominationof
thepersonalitybytheSpiritofGod.Hetalkedaboutpreachingandteachingbeingtheologycomingthrough
amanwhoisonfire.Divineanointing.TheaccompanyingpoweroftheHolySpirit.
Infact,IrarelydothiswhenI'mteaching,butthere'sabook...Idon'tevenknowifit'sstillinprint,butI
loveit.It'sreallyimpactedme.It'sbyE.M.Bounds.It'scalledPowerfulandPrayerfulPulpits.Andifyou'll
turntopage7inyourlittlehandouthere,Iwanttojustreadyouanexcerptfromthatbook.It'skindofold
language,soIwanttoreaditandmaybeemphasizeitinsuchawaythatitwillmakegreatersense.

Nowherehe'stalkingaboutpreachinginpulpits,butIbelievethateveryservantoftheLord,wherever
you'reteaching,whereveryou'reserving,howeveryou'reministeringin,whatevercapacity,youneeddivine
anointingoftheHolySpirittodothattask.Sowhereyouseethewordpreachinghere,thinkaboutteaching
orcounselingordiscipling,andIbelievesimilarthingswouldapply.
Hesays:
Thepowerofpreachingorteachingliesinthedivineanointingontheman.Thisishis
consecrationandqualification.Thoughhemayhavethetongueandwisdomofmenandof
angels,thepowerliesinthecontinuousanointingoftheSpirit.Thelipsthatdonotglowwith
thekindlingsofthisdivineflameareimpotenttospeakforGod.
IntheChristiansystem,unctionistheanointingoftheHolyGhost,separatinguntoGod's
workandqualifyingforit.Thisunctionistheonedivineenablementbywhichthepreacher
ortheteacheraccomplishesthepeculiarandsavingendsofpreaching.Withoutthisunction,
therearenotruespiritualresultsaccomplished.Withoutthisunctiononthepreacher,the
gospelhasnomorepowertopropagateitselfthananyothersystemoftruth.
Yousee,GodhasdesignedtocommunicateHistruth,Hispowerfulgospelthroughweak,flawed,failing
humanvessels.AndhowdoesHedothat?We'recrackedpots,astheapostlePaulsays.Brokenvessels.He
doesitbythepowerofHisHolySpiritcominginandfillingusandusingus.
Boundssays,"UnctioninthepreacherputsGodinthegospel.Withouttheunction,Godisabsent,andthe
gospelislefttothelowandunsatisfactoryforcesthattheingenuity,interests,ortalentsofmencandeviseto
enforceandprojectitsdoctrines."
What'shesaying?Ifwedon'thavethepoweroftheHolySpirit,it'sjustuptoournaturalgifts,andthey
aren'tenoughtoaccomplishtheendsthatneedtobeaccomplishedinpeople'slives.
Hesaid,"Unctionlesspreachingmakeseverythinghard,dry,acridanddead."
Haveyouheardteachinglikethat?Haveyoudoneteachinglikethat?Ihave.
Letmereadon.
NothingshortofthebaptismoftheHolySpiritqualifiesthepreacher,theteacher,the
disciple,thecounselor.Heneedspower.Thepowertoraisethespirituallydead.Powerto
deliverfromtheslaveryofSatan.Powertoenfranchisefromthedominionofsin.Powerto
bringthebrightnessofnoondaytothemidnightofsinandhell.Thepoweroflearning,the
powerofeloquence,thepowerofthebrainwillnotqualifyforthiswork.
DoIhearanyamens?
AnanointedpulpitisthemostpowerfulofGod'sinstitutions,thetenderestandthefirmest,
thegentlestandthestrongest,themostquietingandthemostdisturbing,themostattractive
andthemostrepulsive,thebestlovedandthemosthatedofthingsonearth.Theonething
thatgivesGodthegreatestcomfortandgivesthedevilthegreatesttroubleGod'sgreat
demand,andthechurch'sgreatneedisapulpit[aSundaySchoolclass,homeschool
classroom,amom,awoman]anointedwiththepoweroftheHolySpirit.
Well,fortheremainingmomentswehavethisafternoonandthiseveningcontinuing,Iwanttotalkabout
twoaspectsofthedivineanointing.Thefirstispersonalpreparation,andthat'swherewelookbrieflyatan
anointedlife.Andthenwe'llmovetopowerfulpresentationandlookatanointedlips.
I'mnotsurehowfarwe'llgothisafternoon.We'lljuststopatsomepointandgiveyouadinnerbreakand
thencomebackandpickupwhereweleftoff.ButIwanttostartbrieflywiththismatterofpersonal
preparationananointedlife.

critical.Itisessential.Youcannotbypassit.Therearenoshortcuts.
ButIwanttotellyouthatpreparationofyournotes,preparationofyourhead,preparationofyour
mindisuseless,andmaybeevendangerous,ifit'snotaccompaniedbypreparationofyourheartand
yourlifetodeliverthatmessage.
Soletmemakejusttwopointsaboutpreparationofthelife.
Numberone:WemustletGodspeaktousbeforewespeakHisWordtoothers.Ifyoustartlookingat
thislensthroughScripture,you'llseeitallovertheOldandNewTestaments.
Ezra7:10tellsusthat"EzrahadsethishearttostudythelawoftheLORD,andtodoitandtoteachhis
statutesandrulesinIsrael."Firsthisownstudy,hislife,tostudy,todo,andthentoteach.
WereadinPsalm39,"Myheartbecamehotwithinme.AsImused[AsImeditated,asImarinated,asIlet
Godspeaktome],thefireburnedthenIspokewithmytongue"(v.3).
ToomanyofusaretryingtospeakwithourtonguesbeforewehaveletthefireofGod'sWordandGod's
SpiritandGod'sholinessburnhotlyinourownhearts.Howdoesthathappen?Ithappensaswemuse.It
happensaswemeditate.IthappensaswewaitontheLordwiththisBookopenbeforeus.We'repondering,
we'rethinking,we'reprocessing.We'relettingitsoakintoourpores.Andaswedo,thefireburns.Andthen
whenyougetup,there'sfire.There'spower.
It'snotyou.It'stheHolySpirit.Yougetup,andyouteachwithyourtongue,andGoddoessomething
supernaturaloutofthefireofyourownhearttouseitaskindlingtolightthefireinothers'hearts.
John12:41refersbacktotheprophetIsaiah,thevisionthatIsaiahhadinIsaiah6.Thevisionwasofthe
exaltedChrist."Isaiahsaidthesethings,"John12says,"becausehesaw[Christ's]gloryandspokeofhim."
Youcan'tspeakofthegloryofChristinawaythatwillbecompellingtoothersifyouhaven'tfirst
beheldHisgloryyourself.IsaiahwasuselesstotakeGod'smessagetothenationuntilhehadcomeintothe
templeoftheLordandseentheholy,holy,holy,exaltedChristwhosetrainfilledthetemple.Notuntilhehad
asenseofwonderandaweandofhisownunworthinessandthenhadthatcleansing,searingmomentatthe
altarwherehewascleansedandfilledwiththatvisionofhisownunworthinessandthepowerandthe
majestyofthecrucifiedChristthatheseesinadvance.Thenhegoesout,aflame,withthegloryofGod,and
hespeaksofthegloryofGod.
WehavetoletGodspeaktousbeforewespeakHisWordtoothers.WehavetoseeHimbeforewecanmake
Himseenbyothers.
YouseethisinMosesinExodus34abouthowMoseswentinbeforetheLordtospeakwithHim.Thenhe
wouldcomeout,andhewouldspeaktothechildrenofIsraelwhateverhehadbeencommanded.
Thisone'snotinyournotes,butitcametomymindlatelastnight,orearlythismorning:Inthebookof1
Samuel,attheendofchapter3,Scripturesays,"TheLORDrevealedhimselftoSamuelatShilohbythe
wordoftheLORD"(v.21).
Then4:1:"ThewordofSamuelcametoallIsrael."
Whathappenedfirst?TheLordrevealedHimselftoSamuel.That'swhyGodgaveyouthisBook,soyou

Ezekiel2,letmejustsummarize.GodbringstoEzekielascroll.It'sanoddaccount.Hishandisstretched
out,andthere'sascrollwrittenonthefrontandontheback,andthemessengersaystohim,"Sonofman....
Eatthisscroll,andgo,speaktothehouseofIsrael"(Ezek.3:1).
"Eatthisscroll."Whatdoesthatmean?Well,asEzekieltheprophet,anointedbyGod,consecratedforGod's
purposes,ashereceivedandinternalizedGod'smessage,symbolizedinthe"eatingofthescroll,"theWord
ofGod,hewastakingitintohisownlifesothatitbecamealiving,breathing,burningpassion,firewithin
hisownsoul.AndthenhewentandspoketothepeopleofIsrael.
Iamsotiredofgivingandlisteningtopassionlessmessageswherethespeaker,myselfsooften,hasnotbeen
atthefireofGod'spresence.We'rejusttalking,andnobody'slifeisbeingchanged,andGod'snotvisitingus
withHismanifestpresence.Coulditbethatoneofthereasonsiswe'renotseekingGodforthedivine
anointingofourlives?
Hesaid,"Sonofman,eatthescroll.Go,speaktothehouseofIsrael.AllMywordsthatIshallspeaktoyou,

You'llneverspeakwordswithpowertoothersthatyouhaven'theardfirstGodspeaktoyourownheart.It
takestime.Therearenoshortcuts.Ittakeswaiting.Ittakessolitude.
RememberJohntheBaptist,whowasinthewildernesslisteningtoGoduntilthedayofhisappearingto
Israel?Andoncehewentout,hewasamanonfireandpeoplecametowatchhimburn.They'llcomeand
watchyouburnwhenyougetsetaflamewiththepoweroftheHolySpirit.
TheLordJesusHimselfsaidinJohn8,"Idonothingonmyownauthority,butspeakjustastheFathertaught
me"(v.28).
Ilisten.IlearnfrommyFather.AndthenIspeakofwhatIhaveseenwithmyFather.
TheapostleJohnin1John1says,concerningtheWordofLife,"Thatwhichwehaveseenandheard,we

"Everyonewhenheisfullytrained..."That'swhatwe'retryingtodowomenteachingwomen.Right?
Well,whenwe'vedoneourjob,"everyone,whenheisfullytrainedwillbelikehisteacher."Itdoesn'tsay
he'llknowwhathisteacherknows.Itsayshe'llbelikewhathisteacheris.
Sothequestionisdoesyourlifeofftheplatformsupportorcontradictwhatyouteach?Youseeifthe
truthhasn'tfirstchangedus,it'snotlikelytochangeanyoneelsewhenwespeakit.

Personalpreparationananointedlife.Don'tskipbythatasyoupreparetoteachtheWordofGodtoothers.
I'veknownwomenovertheyearswhoaremasterfulcommunicators.They'reindemand.They'repopular
speakers.Peoplecomeandfillroomstohearthemspeak.Butthenyoustarttalkingtothemabouttheir
marriage,abouttheirhome,abouttheirpersonalwalkwithGod.Sometimestheirhomeisinshambles,
literally,ortheirrelationshipsare,whilethey'reupteachingothersthethingsofGod.AndI'msaying,"There
issomethingwrongwiththispicture."
There'ssomethingwrongwiththatpicturewhenit'strueinmylife.ThatI'vegotsomegreatbigmessageto
proclaimhere,buttheninmyrelationshipsintheoffice,withmyfamily,withmyclosestfriends,there'snot
thefruitoftheSpirit.WhenI'mchallengingyoutoliveaSpiritfilledlifeandaprayerfullifeandananointed
life,butofftheplatform,mylifeishohumandordinaryandnotevidencingthepowerandthefruitofthe
Spirit,somethingdoesn'taddup.
SoIcome,andIsay,"Oh,Lord."I'msayingtoyouI'mnotallthosethingsI'mcallingustobe,butbyGod's
grace,I'mheadedthatdirection.I'mcommittedtobe.I'mwillingtobetransparenttosaywhereit'snot
workinginmylifebutthisiswhere,byGod'sgrace,He'schangingmeandmakingmethekindofwomen
Hewantsmetobe.
AndIwanttosaytoyou,asPaulsaid,"BeimitatorsofmeasIamofChrist"(1Cor.11:1),knowingthat
everyone,whenhe'sbeenfullytrained,willbelikehisteacher."
Oh,Lord,IpraythatpeoplewholistentomewillgofurtherthanIhavegone.ButIcan'tcountonthat.I
wanttolivethekindoflifethatcompelspeopletofollowJesusastheyseemedoingthat.
Well,letmejuststartalittlebitintothismatterofpowerfulpresentationanointedlips.Iwanttomakejust
twopointshere,andthenwe'lltakeabreakandcomebacktothistonight.
Numberone:Tohaveanointedlips,cultivateandcommunicateasenseofreverentialawefortheWord
ofGodawefortheWordofGod.
InIsaiah66:2,Godsays,"ThisistheonetowhomIwilllook:hewhoishumbleandcontriteinspiritand
tremblesatmyword."
Iwanttosay,Idothinkthere'saplace,anappropriateplaceforhumor,incommunicatingtruth,inteaching
others,inteachingyourchildren,discipling,speakinguphere.Jenuseditwell.Ilovedhowsheusedhumor
inaneffectivewaytoenhancethepointandtokindoftakethepointdeeperintoourownhearts.
ButitcanbeadangerousthingbecauseI'veseenfartoomanypeopleinthepulpit,ontheplatform,in
teachingsettings,makelightofserioustruthsfromGod'sWord.Ithinkweneedtobereally,reallycareful
thatwedon'tmakelightoftheserich,powerful,amazing,awesometruths,thatwestandundertheWordof
GodinaweofthisBook.
It'sanawesomeprivilegeandaresponsibilitytohandletheWordofGod.Neverhandleitlightly.
Nevertreatitasatrivialthing.
Augustinesaid,"WhentheBiblespeaks,Godspeaks."
That'swhywhenI'mteachingthroughatextandIreadthepassage,Iwillalmostalwayssay,"Couldwe
standtogetherforthereadingoftheWordaswegivehonortotheWordofGod?"BecausewhatthisBook
saysiswhatispowerful.I'mgoingtoshedlightonit.I'mgoingtohelpyouunderstanditasGod'sbeen
doingthatforme,butIwantyoutoknowthatit'snotmywords.It'sthisWordthatwillchangeyourlife.It's
awesome.SocultivatethatsenseofreverenceandawefortheWordofGod.
Anddon'texpectotherstobeanymoredeeplystirredbythetruththanyou'vebeenstirredbyit.Ifthistruth
you'reteachinghasn'tstirredyou,ifithasn'tdonesomethingtoburnafireinyou,thenwhywouldanybody
elsegetexcitedaboutit?Whywouldanybodyelsesay,"Yes!That'swhatIwant!"ifthey'renotseeingthat
warmthofhearttowardGod'sWordinyou?

Rememberthatthepowerisnotinthewordsthatwespeakorinournaturaleloquence.Butit'sthe
poweroftheHolySpiritofGod.
Idon'tknowhowmanytimesovertheyearsmanyI'vehadthisconversationwiththeLord.Itissimilar
totheonethatMaryofNazarethhadwiththeangelinLuke1.Nowthedetailsaredifferent,butasimilar
exchange.Rememberhowtheangelcameandsaid,"You'regoingtobecarryinginyourwombtheSonof
God"?
AndMarygoesafourteenyearoldgirlheremaybe,ayoungteenager"Howcanthisbe?I'venever
knownaman.It'simpossible."
I'vesaidthistotheLordsomanytimes.WhenHeaskedmetostartReviveOurHeartsradio,whenthecall
cametodotheTrueWomanConferences,theseReviveConferences.AndIgo,"Lord,thisisimpossible.I
