DEFINITION OF TERMS
Manufacturing - to make or produce by hand or machinery, especially on a large scale.
Management - the act or manner of managing; handling, direction, or control.
Product - the totality of goods or services that a company makes available; output
Technology - a scientific or industrial process, invention and/or method.
Invention - an act or instance of creating or producing by exercise of the imagination and call of
necessity.
Engineering management is the process of designing and maintaining an environment in which,
individuals, working together in groups, efficiently accomplish organizational goals/objectives.

BASIC ELEMENTS OF ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT

TO FORECAST AND PLAN - Planning involves choosing tasks that must be performed to
attain organizational goals, outline how the task must be performed and indicating when

they should be performed


TO ORGANIZE - Organizing can be thought as assigning the tasks developed under the
planning function to various individual or groups within the organization. Organizing, then,

creates a mechanism to put plan into action


TO COMMAND It is also referred as leading, commanding or directing people within the
organization to increase production and to lead the organization more toward the ultimate

goal.
TO COORDINATE To combine members in a harmonious relation or action to sync their

wavelength to the plan


TO CONTROL Keeping things on track, adjusting performance to the maximum capacity
with the right effort towards the desired goal

PERSONALITIES OF ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT


Frederick Taylor (Also known as the Father of Scientific Management). He was an American
mechanical engineer who sought to improve industrial efficiency. He was one of the first
management consultants.
Henri Fayol (Also known as Father of Modern Management) French Engineer who created a list
of the six primary function of management, And He is considered to be among the most
influential contributors to the modern concept of management
Henry Gantt - developed Gantt chart (a management technique for management
information). Henry Gantt management theory incorporates the record of the work that has been
done, balanced with the work that still needs to be completed.
Mary Parker Follet was one of the great women management gurus. importance and value of
human relations to the basic principles of organization. Defined management as the art of
getting things through others.
