1.Columnlayoutwork:Inthisstageofworksthelocationofcolumnsaredeterminedpracticallyin
field.Itisdonebylayingropeaccordingtogridsshowninthedrawingandthenmarkthelocationof
columnsrelatedtorope.
Indrawing,columnlocationsareshownrelatedtogridlinewithdimension.Practicaly,infield,ropesare
ourgridline.Soweplacecolumnsrelatedtoropelinebymeasuringdimensionshowninthedrawing.

Thereisasheetinstructuraldrawingwhichcontainsstructuralnotesfromstructuraldesigner.Inthat
drawingsheet,you'llfindsuggestedlaplengthforcolumn'ssteelofdifferentdiameterbarandother
importantnotes.Youshouldreadthosebeforecolumnreinforcementwork.
3.Columnformwork:Inbuilding,floorheightisnormallykept10feet.Iftheslabhasbeamthenwe
havetopourconcreteuptobeambottomlevel.Suppose,beamheightspecifiedindrawingis1'6".So,
thecastingheightofourcolumnwillbe8'6".Andourformworkheightwillbe8'6".Butonethingshould
beconsideredhereisthatdroppingconcretefromabove5'heightisn'tsuggestedduringpouring.
Becauseitleadsconcretesegregation.Soweshouldmakeonesideofcolumnformworkwithin5feet
heightrange.Aftercasting5feetofcolumn,wejustlifttheshortsideuptofullcastingheightofcolumn
nextday.
Anotherwaytocastcolumnwithoutsegregationistokeepasmallwindowat5feetleveloffullheight
formwork.Aftercastinguptothatlevel,closethewindowandcasttherestofthecolumn.
4.Pouringconcreteintocolumn:Castingcolumniseasy.Forsmallquantityofconcretevolumewe
normallydependonmachinemixconcreteandforlargeconcretequantityweorderreadymix
concrete.Iwouldsuggestmachinemixconcrete.Because,ifyouusemovingpumpwithreadymix

Column height it is the height difference between the clear floor to
floorheightminusthethebeamhavinggreaterdepthmeetingatthe
columnjunction..columnliningtobecheckedwhileyouarecasting
of starters and plumb can be checked by dropping a plumb bub
suspendingitfromtopendofthecolumnboxtothelowerpart,you
shouldmeasureusingtapethediffrencebetweenshutteringmaterial
and a thread u suspended should be same at top and bottom of
column..

While filling the RCC column (with Box) with concrete, should it be
filled to the full height of the column in one stretch? The common
domestic construction practice is the column box is mounted ti half
theheightofthecolumnfilledwithconcreteononeday,andboxis
dismantledaftersettingandagainmounteduptoremainingtophalf
andfilledwithconcreteonanotherday.
Isitacorrectpractice?
Mydoubtisthatwilltherebeproperbondingbetweenthealreadyset
concretelayerwiththeconcretepouredoverthatthen.
