2005 – 2010 Tacoma

Introduction

Some 2005 – 2010 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a condition where the interior carpet
has become wet or water is found in the interior due to water draining into the cabin from the rear
window. This can occur in heavy rain or a car wash if the rear window molding seal is covering the
rear cab drain vents, allowing water to enter the vehicle. Use the following repair information to
correct this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
• This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this


bulletin.

Repair Procedure

1. Locate the 2 drain vent locations on the back Figure 1. Drain Vent Locations.
panel below the rear window.

2. Perform a water test by opening the rear window Figure 2. .

shown in Figure 2. Observe the water drainage
flow.

NOTICE
As a precaution, apply a shop towel or rags
along the base of the interior of the rear
window channel to catch any water that may
flow into the cabin during the test.

• If water does NOT drain out of vent locations


as shown in Figure 3, proceed to step 3.
• If water drains out of vents as shown in Figure 3. .

3. Mark the center of each drain vent on the bottom Figure 4. .

4. Insert a body filler spreader or similar plastic tool, at least 30 mm (1.18 in.) wide, between the
weatherstrip and body at the drain vent location.
5. Cut out a notch in the weatherstrip with a razor or knife following the marked lines in Figure 4.
Repeat this for both drain locations.

NOTICE
Ensure the razor or knife does NOT cut into the body.

6. Confirm repair by water testing the drain channel and observing adequate water flow from
the drain.
