楼 观 台

dà niú ： kuài lè xué hàn yǔ ， qīng sōng yòu hǎo jì 。

大 牛 ： 快 乐 学 汉 语 ， 轻 松 又 好 记 。

Welcome to this edition of Happy China.

xī ān shì zhōng huá mín zú zhòng yào de fā yuán dì ，

西安 是 中 华 民 族 重 要 的 发 源 地 ，
Xi'an is an important birthplace of the Chinese nation,

tā jiù hǎo bǐ shì yì kē dà shù de shù gēn。

它就 好 比 是 一棵 大 树 的 树 根。
just like the main roots of a huge tree.

zài zhè lǐ ne ，
在 这 里 呢 ，
Here you can

nín chù chù dōu néng fā xiàn huá xià wén míng de hén jì 。
您 处 处 都 能 发 现 华 夏 文 明 的 痕 迹 。
Find traces everywhere of Chinese civilization.

dà niú： hán jiā ，zhè huà shuō dé tài jué duì le ba 。

大 牛 ： 韩 佳 ， 这 话 说 得 太 绝 对 了 吧 。
Han Jia, you'd better not use absolute terms.

nǐ jiù ná zhè lǐ lái shuō，

你就 拿 这里 来 说 ，
For instance, on the mountain

zhǐ yǒu gāo shān hé sēn lín ，

只 有 高 山 和 森 林 ，
and in the forest here,
 nǎ yǒu shén me wén míng de hén jì ā ？
哪 有 什 么 文 明 的 痕 迹 啊 ？
are there any traces of civilization?

hán jiā ： nǐ ā 。 shì bú jiàn bù zhī dào 。

韩 佳 ： 你啊 。 是 不 见 不 知 道 。
Sure. Seeing is believing.

wǒ zhè jiù dài nǐ qù zhǎo zhǎo 。

我 这 就 带 你 去 找 找 。
Let me take you to see if we can find any.

dà niú： zhè lǐ huì yǒu shén me ne ？

大 牛： 这里 会 有 什 么 呢 ？
What could we find here?

zhōng yú pá shàng lái le 。

终 于 爬 上 来 了 。
Oh, we've finally climbed up the hill.

hán jiā ：dà niú ，zhè lǐ jiù shì wǒ men de mù dì dì le 。

韩 佳 ：大 牛 ， 这里 就是 我 们 的 目 的 地 了 。
Daniel, this is our destination.

dà niú ： ā ， zhè bú jiù shì yí zuò dào guàn ma ？

大 牛 ： 啊 ， 这 不 就 是 一 座 道 观 嘛 ？
Oh, isn't this a Taoist temple?

zhè jiù shì nǐ yào dài wǒ lái kàn de

这 就 是 你 要 带 我 来 看 的
This is the place where you wan to show me

wén míng de hén jì ā ？

文 明 的 痕 迹 啊 ？
the traces of civilization?

hán jiā ：duì ā 。liǎng qiān sì bǎi duō nián qián ，

韩 佳 ：对 啊 。 两 千 四 百 多 年 前 ，
Yeah. Some 2,400 years ago,

zhè lǐ jiù shì lǎo zǐ jiǎng xué de dì fāng 。

这 里 就是 老 子 讲 学 的 地 方 。
Lao Zi taught here.

dà niú ：lǎo zǐ ？ lǎo zǐ zài guó wài yě fēi cháng yǒu míng 。
大 牛 ：老子 ？ 老 子在 国 外 也 非 常 有 名 。
Lao Zi? Lao Zi is also very famous abroad.
 tā xiě de 《 dào dé jīng 》 bèi yì chéng xǔ duō zhǒng bù tóng de wén zì 。
他 写 的 《 道 德 经 》 被 译 成 许 多 种 不 同 的 文 字 。
The book, Tao Te Ching, has been translated into many languages.

tā shì dào jiā sī xiǎng de chuàng shǐ rén 。

他是 道 家 思 想 的 创 始 人 。
He was the founder of Taoism.

tā shuō de huà dōu fēi cháng yǒu zhé lǐ ，

他 说 的 话 都 非 常 有 哲 理 ，
His statements are full of philosophy,

yǒu shén me zhī zú 、guǎ yù ，

有 什 么 知 足 、 寡 欲 ，
such as "content with one's lot", "restraint of desires"

hái yǒu wù jí bì fǎn shén me de 。

还 有 物极 必 反 什 么 的 。
and "wu ji bi fan" (A thing will turn into its opposite if pushed too far).

hán jiā ： nǐ hái zhī dào wù jí bì fǎn ā ？

韩 佳 ： 你 还 知 道 物 极必 反啊 ？
You even know "wu ji bi fan", eh?

wù jí bì fǎn ā jiù shì shuō shì wù fā zhǎn dào le jí duān ，

物极必 反 啊 就 是 说 事 物 发 展 到 了 极 端 ，
"wu ji bi fan" means that when things have reached their extreme,

jiù huì xiàng xiāng fǎn de fāng xiàng zhuǎn huà 。

就 会 向 相 反 的 方 向 转 化 。
they will turn into their opposites.

zhè zài hàn yǔ zhōng jīng cháng huì yòng dào 。

这 在 汉 语 中 经 常 会 用 到 。
The phrase is often used in Chinese.

dà niú ： wù jí bì fǎn jiù shì shuō shì wù fā zhǎn dào le jí duān，

大 牛 ： 物极必 反 就 是 说 事 物 发 展 到 了 极 端 ，
"wu ji bi fan" is a Chinese idiom which means when an action is reached its extreme,

jiù huì xiàng xiāng fǎn de fāng xiàng zhuǎn huà。

就 会 向 相 反 的 方 向 转 化 。
there will be an equal and opposite counter reaction.

wù jí bì fǎn 。
物 极必 反 。
"wu ji bi fan".
hán jiā ： lǎo zǐ ā ，shì zhōng guó lì shǐ shàng yí wèi wěi dà de zhé xué jiā 。
韩 佳 ： 老 子啊 ， 是 中 国 历史 上 一 位 伟 大 的 哲 学 家 。
Lao Zi was a great philosopher in Chinese history.

tā de zhé xué sī xiǎng zài zhōng guó yǒu hěn dà de yǐng xiǎng。
他 的 哲 学 思 想 在 中 国 有 很 大 的 影 响 。
His philosophical thinking has exerted a great influence on Chinese society.

dà niú： kàn lái xī ān zhēn de shì chù chù dōu yǒu wén míng de hén jì 。
大 牛 ： 看 来 西安 真 的 是 处 处 都 有 文 明 的 痕 迹 。
This does prove that in Xi'an, there are traces of civilization everywhere.

hán jiā： wǒ méi shuō cuò ba 。 zǒu 。

韩 佳： 我 没 说 错 吧 。 走 。
So I didn't say anything wrong. Let's go.

快 来 看 。
Look.

dà niú ：qí guài 。zhè zhāng shí zhuō zěn me bèi wéi qǐ lái le ya ？
大 牛 ：奇 怪 。 这 张 石 桌 怎 么 被 围 起来了 呀 ？
It's strange. Why is this stone table sealed off?

hán jiā： zhè kě bú shì shí zhuō 。

韩 佳： 这 可 不 是 石 桌 。
No, this is not a stone table.

zhè shì lǎo zǐ mó yào de shí mó 。

这 是 老 子 磨 药 的 石 磨 。
They were the millstones used by Lao Zi when grinding medicinal herbs.

nǐ qiāo qiāo kàn 。

你 敲 敲 看 。
You just knock at it.

dà niú ：zěn me xiàng tiě gùn ā ？

大 牛 ：怎 么 像 铁 棍 啊 ？
Does it sound like an iron rod?

hán jiā ：qiāo jī tā jiù huì fā chū qīng cuì yuè ěr de shēng yīn lái 。
韩 佳 ：敲 击 它就 会 发 出 清 脆 悦 耳 的 声 音 来 。
Striking at it produces clear and melodious sounds.

suǒ yǐ rén men jiù guǎn tā jiào xiǎng shí 。

所 以 人 们 就 管 它 叫 响 石 。
So people call it the Sounding Stone.
dà niú ：tā wèi shén me huì fā chū zhè zhǒng shēng yīn ne ？
大 牛 ：它为 什 么 会 发 出 这 种 声 音 呢 ？
Why does it produce this kind of sounds?

hán jiā： qí shí tā bú shì yí kuài pǔ tōng de shí tóu 。

韩 佳： 其 实它 不 是 一块 普 通 的 石 头 。
This is no ordinary stone.

ér shì yí kuài yǔn shí ，

而 是 一块 陨 石 ，
It's a meteorite,

jīn shǔ hán liàng fēi cháng gāo 。

金 属 含 量 非 常 高 。
containing lots of metal components.

suǒ yǐ qiāo jī tā jiù huì fā chū

所 以 敲 击 它就 会 发 出
So it can produce sounds different from that

gēn yì bān shí tóu bù yí yàng de shēng yīn lái 。

跟 一 般 石 头 不 一 样 的 声 音 来 。
of ordinary stones when being struck at.

dà niú ： kàn lái zhè lǐ de dōng xī dōu hěn tè bié 。

大 牛 ： 看 来 这 里 的 东 西 都 很 特 别 。
It seems there are many interesting things here.

hán jiā ： hái yǒu gèng tè bié de ne 。

韩 佳 ： 还 有 更 特 别 的 呢 。
There are things you may find more interesting.

wǒ dài nǐ qù kàn jǐ zhǒng zhēn guì de guó bǎo 。 zǒu 。

我 带 你 去 看 几 种 珍 贵 的 国 宝 。 走 。
Let me take you to see some national treasures. Let's go.

dà niú ： hán jiā ，

大 牛 ： 韩 佳 ，
Han Jia,

nǐ bú shì shuō yào dài wǒ kàn guó bǎo ma ，

你 不 是 说 要 带 我 看 国 宝 嘛 ，
you said you would take me to see some national treasures,

zěn me bǎ wǒ dài dào dòng wù yuán lǐ lái le ya ？

怎 么 把 我 带 到 动 物 园 里 来了呀 ？
but why are you taking me to a zoo here?
hán jiā ：zhè lǐ kě bú shì dòng wù yuán ā 。
韩 佳 ：这 里可 不 是 动 物 园 啊 。
This is not a zoo.

zhè lǐ shì yě shēng dòng wù sì yǎng bǎo hù zhōng xīn。

这 里是 野 生 动 物 饲 养 保 护 中 心 。
It is a wildlife breeding and protection center.

nǐ kàn ， guó bǎo jiù zài nà ér 。

你 看 ， 国 宝 就 在 那 儿 。
Look, the national treasures are right over there.

dà niú ： ā ，jiù shì nà xiē cháng zuǐ dà niǎo ？

大 牛 ： 啊 ，就 是那 些 长 嘴 大 鸟 ？
You mean those long-beaked birds?

hán jiā ： nà shì zhū huán 。

韩 佳 ： 那 是 朱 鹮 。
They are crested ibises.

xiàn zài quán shì jiè yě cái zhí yǒu jǐ bǎi zhī 。
现 在 全 世 界也 才 只 有 几 百 只 。
There are only a few hundred of them in the world.

dà niú ： zěn me huì zhè me xī shǎo ne ？

大 牛 ： 怎 么 会 这 么 稀 少 呢 ？
Why so few?

hán jiā ：huán jìng è huà zào chéng de bei 。

韩 佳 ：环 境 恶 化 造 成 的 呗 。
The cause is the deteriorating environment.

zài shàng shì jì qī shí nián dài ā ，

在 上 世 纪七 十 年 代 啊 ，
In the 1970s,

zài yě wài jī hū kàn bú dào tā men de zōng yǐng ，

在 野 外 几乎 看 不 到 它 们 的 踪 影 ，
the birds were rarely seen in the wild,

yě jiù zài zhè lǐ hái yǒu yí gè zhū huán zhǒng qún 。

也 就 在 这里 还 有 一 个 朱 鹮 种 群 。
except here. Thus a habitat of the crested ibises has been preserved.

dà niú ， kuài lái kàn líng niú 。

大 牛 ， 快 来 看 羚 牛 。
Daniel, come here and see the takins.
dà niú ： ā ？ kàn qǐ lái hěn wēn shùn ma 。
大 牛 ： 啊 ？ 看 起 来 很 温 顺 嘛 。
What? They're looking so tame.

hán jiā： tā kàn qǐ lái suī rán wēn shùn ，

韩 佳： 它 看 起来 虽 然 温 顺 ，
They are seemingly tame,

qí shí ā ， pí qì dà zhe ne 。
其 实 啊 ， 脾气大 着 呢 。
but they have very short tempers.

dà niú ：dōu shuō rén bù kě mào xiāng ，

大 牛 ：都 说 人 不 可 貌 相 ，
It's said that men can not be judged by their looks,

méi xiǎng dào niú yě bù kě mào xiāng 。

没 想 到 牛 也 不 可 貌 相 。
the same rule also applies to animals.

hán jiā： jiù shì ma 。

韩 佳： 就 是 嘛 。
Right.

bú guò zhè zhǒng dòng wù ā shù liàng yě bù duō le 。

不 过 这 种 动 物 啊 数 量 也 不 多 了 。
The number of the world's takins is very limited.

yòu shì yì zhǒng zhēn xī dòng wù 。

又 是 一 种 珍 稀 动 物 。
So they are also a rare animal.

dà niú： zhè ér dào dǐ yǒu duō shǎo zhǒng zhēn xī dòng wù ne ？

大 牛 ： 这 儿 到 底 有 多 少 种 珍 稀 动 物 呢 ？
How many rare animal species here?

hán jiā ： wǔ zhǒng ，

韩 佳 ： 五 种 ，
Five,

hái yǒu jīn sī hóu 、 hè mǎ jī ，

还 有 金 丝 猴 、 褐 马 鸡 ，
including golden monkeys, brown-eared pheasants

hé yì zhǒng rén men fēi cháng shú xī 、

和 一 种 人 们 非 常 熟 悉 、
and another species, which most people are familiar with
 fēi cháng xǐ ài de dòng wù 。
非 常 喜 爱的 动 物 。
and love very much.

dà niú ： ò ， wǒ zhī dào le ，

大 牛 ： 哦 ， 我 知 道 了 ，
Oh, I know

dà xióng māo 。
大 熊 猫 。
they are giant pandas.

hán jiā ：dà xióng māo ā shì zuì rě rén xǐ ài de dòng wù le 。

韩 佳 ：大 熊 猫 啊 是 最 惹人 喜 爱的 动 物 了 。
Giant pandas are the loveliest animal.

zhōng guó qín lǐng shān mài shì tā men de jiā 。

中 国 秦 岭 山 脉 是 它 们 的 家 。
They live in the Qinling Mountains of China.

dà niú ： dà xióng māo hān tài kě jū de yàng zǐ zhēn shì shí fēn kě ài 。
大 牛 ： 大 熊 猫 憨 态 可鞠 的 样 子 真 是 十 分 可 爱 。
They are lovely because of their naive and cute behaviors.

hán jiā ： zǎo zài jǐ shí wàn nián qián ā ，

韩 佳 ： 早 在 几十 万 年 前 啊 ，
Giant pandas had existed hundreds of

dà xióng māo jiù yǐ jīng cún zài le 。

大 熊 猫 就 已 经 存 在 了 。
thousands of years ago.

suǒ yǐ ne ，rén men chēng tā men wéi huó huà shí 。

所 以 呢 ，人 们 称 它 们 为 活 化 石 。
So people call them living fossils.

tā men kě shì zhōng guó tè yǒu de yě shēng dòng wù ā 。

它 们 可 是 中 国 特有 的 野 生 动 物 啊 。
They are a special wild animal peculiar to China.

dà niú ： jīn tiān kàn le nà me duō zhēn xī dòng wù

大 牛 ：今 天 看 了 那 么 多 珍 稀 动 物
I am satisfied that

wǒ zhēn shì xīn mǎn yì zú 。

我 真 是 心 满 意 足 。
I have seen so many rare animals today.
hán jiā： nǐ shì xīn mǎn yì zú le ， wǒ hái yì yóu wèi jìn ne 。
韩 佳： 你 是 心 满 意 足了 ， 我 还 意 犹 未 尽 呢 。
You are satisfied, but I feel I'd like to see more.

dà niú ： nà jiù gǎn kuài jìn rù wǒ men jīn tiān de shǎng xīn yuè mù
大 牛 ：那 就 赶 快 进 入 我 们 今 天 的 赏 心 悦 目

楼 观 台 位 于 西安 周 至 县
The Louguantai Tower stands in Xi'an's Zhouzhi County.

shān fēng mián yán zhòng luán dié zhàng

山 峰 绵 延 重 峦 叠 嶂
Hidden among mountain ranges,

zhè lǐ shì dāng nián lǎo zǐ jiǎng jīng shuō dào zhī dì
这 里 是 当 年 老 子 讲 经 说 道 之 地
the tower is believed to be the place where Lao Zi taught Taoism.

tíng tái lóu gé jiān yě gǎn rǎn le dào jiā de fēng gǔ

亭 台 楼 阁 间 也 感 染 了 道 家 的 风 骨
This ancient monument exudes vestiges of Taoism.

zài zhè pì jìng shān lín zhōng shēng huó zhe de zhēn xī dòng wù
在 这 僻 静 山 林 中 生 活 着 的 珍 稀 动 物
In the quiet mountain forests, there are rare animals,

dé dào xī xīn zhào gù hé jiù zhù

得 到 悉 心 照 顾 和 救 助
which are under careful protection.

xiǎng shòu zhe qīng shān lǜ shuǐ jiān de xián shì ān níng
享 受 着 青 山 绿 水 间 的 闲 适 安 宁
They are living a carefree life in the habitat.
