What is Vandana?
Vandana is a carefully selected collection of Jain songs that is
created especially for today’s generation of Jain youth. The joy,
togetherness and spiritual trance that results from musical
bhavana is incredible. Traditional books of Jain songs used in
bhavana, however, are printed in Gujarati or Hindi and are thus
inaccessible to today’s generation of Jain youth. Vandana is our
humble answer to this problem.

By providing English transliteration and commentary for each


song, we hope to transform the experience of participating in
musical bhavana into something meaningful and enjoyable. The
songs we have chosen are selected from hundreds of others after
close examination of their meaning and ability to sing.

We hope this preview edition will whet your desire to obtain the
full version. We’d also love to hear your feedback and ideas at

Through this prayer, we learn that four things in this world are
considered most auspicious and supreme - Arihant (perfect soul),

This stavan signifies the importance of the Navakar Mantra and


states that anyone, at anytime, and in any situation can recite this
eternal mantra. This mantra is comprised of 68 letters,
corresponding to the recognized 68 most important Jain tirths.
Reciting this mantra symbolizes visiting all 68 tirths.

Mother Trishla is rocking baby Mahavir’s cradle and singing a
