Vermont Law School Student Demand for

Energy Efficient Housing


Vermont Law School students were surveyed to understand student demand for energy efficient
housing options. The results, shown below, demonstrate an overwhelming interest.

Results from the survey demonstrate that the great majority of students (96%) believe that energy efficiency is
important, with 64% of the students feeling that it is extremely important. Furthermore, a compelling
percentage of the students (89%) said that they would likely make housing decisions based on energy
efficiency. An important response to note is that 91% of the students said they would likely pay more for
monthly rent if they saved money on their electric and heating bills through more energy efficient building

These survey results demonstrate that not only are students interested in living in energy efficient buildings,
but they are also interested in helping landlords make the efficiency improvements. The cooperative and
collaborative effort between landlords and students will help actualize the goal of making the Vermont Law
School community a more energy efficient place to live.
