The Sentencing of the eight workers of the Military Factory # 99


Postponed to Tomorrow

Egypt, CTUWS, on August 29, 2010: Today the Military Court, which witnesses the trial of the
eight workers of the Military Factory # 99 of Helwan Engineering Industries Company, has
decided to postpone the sentencing to tomorrow morning.
The court bench has listened to the defense case that demanded for the preclusion of the crime
materially and morally, emphasizing on its prevalence since no witness of the prosecution
witnesses has testified, in the court hearing of yesterday, that he had seen truly one of the eight
workers beating the General or during the workers' protest in the factory.
The court bench has also questioned the head of maintenance department and the vice chairman
of the company board about the report on the damaged parts of the factory due to the workers'
protest, meanwhile the advocates asserted that the workers are not responsible on that part,
because the factory had been stopped by an administrative decree for vacation that taken by the
management of the factory.
The defense asked for declaring the unconstitutionality of Law No. 138 of 2010, which was
released in last June, and states that workers in military factories shall be referred to military
courts.
On August 3, 2010, after the explosion of Nitrogen tube (boiler) in the Military Factory #99
which led to the death of a worker, Ahmed Abdelhady, and the injury of six workers, the workers
of factory gathered, furiously protesting against factory's heads. After the workers' protest, the
eight workers, Ahmed Taher Hassan, Ayman Taher Hassan, Ahmed Mohammed Abdel
Mohaimen, Mohammed Tarek Sayed, Wael Baioumy Mohammed, Hisham Farouk Eid, Ali Nabil
Ezzat, and Tarek Sayed Mahmoud had been arrested.
On August 14, 2010, the Military Prosecution ordered to put the eight workers into jail for four
days to continue the investigation process, then extended those four days to another four, and
suddenly the eight workers have been sent to the Military Court.
