Figure 1 : Drainage in soil.

One of the similarities between physical composition of soil and physical composition of
human body is drainage. Drainage is the rate and extent of water and air movement. Bad
drainage in soil shown by soil that is soggy or water logged means there is not enough air in the
soil pores or spaces.cDrainage problems are caused by high water tables, collections points such
as swales or areas flooded by roof runoff, compacted soils or hardpan. This problem can be solve
by adding organic materials with the soil in order to increase percentage of humus. Humus sticks
the soil particles into larger crumbs so there are bigger spaces for air and water.

Figure 2 : Lymphatic system in human body.

Meanwhile, drainage in human body are play by lymphatic system where fluid moving
between the cells and tissues and distributing the infection fighting and scavenging cells of the
body. Lymph vessels can become clogged with protein deposits leading to sluggish flow
(congestion) and impaired function.

Figure 3 : Porosity of soil.

Another similarity in physical composition between soil and human body is porosity and
permeability. Porosity of a soil is the volume of all the open spaces (pores) between the solid
grains of soil. For growing things in soil, the porosity is important as it defines the volume of
water that can be held in a given volume of the soil.

Figure 4 : Permeability in soil.

Soil permeability is the property of the soil pore system that allows fluid to flow. It is generally
the pore sizes and their connectivity that determines whether a soil has high or low permeability.
Water will flow easily through soil with large pores with good connectivity between them. Small
pores with the same degree of connectivity would have lower permeability, because water would
flow through the soil more slowly. It is possible to have zero permeability (no flow) in a high

porosity soil if the pores are isolated (not connected). It is also to have zero permeability if the
pores are very small, such as in clay.

Figure 5 : Human¶s skin.

Human skin permeability is the ability of foreign substances to penetrate and diffuse through
the skin. Skin naturally has a low permeability, thus protects the body from particles and foreign
toxins by not allowing them to penetrate through the surface. The stratum corneum is the
outermost layer of skin and is an effective barrier to most inorganic nanosized particles.
