Hypertension was one of the most common diseases in the
community. Although advances were made over the last few decades in the prevention, detection and treatment of hypertension, statistics shows some disturbing trends. The prevalence of hypertension is on the rise, and control rates are variable with the majority of the people with hypertension, undercontrolled. Estimates are that only about 25% of all people with hypertension have blood pressure controlled at target level.
Hypertension would be very difficult to manage especially if there is
existing health problem just like the case of our patient who also happened to have electrolyte imbalance. Prioritization of management is necessary so as not to worsen either of the disease condition. Adequate replacement of loss electrolytes is crucial to prevent the occurrence of signs and symptoms which are fatal to one’s life. Health care providers like us play a vital role in this management. We should instruct our client to comply with his medication regimen, improve his diet and have some modifications in his lifestyle as indicated for faster recovery.
RECOMMENDATIONS
As health care providers, we recommend our patient to comply with
his medication regimen in order to control his high blood pressure. Improvement in his diet is also important. He should have an adequate intake of sodium, milk and should consume foods high in potassium and other nutrients. We also recommend him to take alcohol into moderation because excess is always bad for him. Finally, we recommend him to abstain from cigarette smoking because this could be a precipitating factor for the development of complications such as angina pectoris and myocardial infarction
