Annotating Magazine Covers

Henna Patel
Masthead
The masthead here only
takes up a corner of the
page. The background
colour is red and the font is
white. These two colours
are contrasting, which
makes it stand out.

This masthead, however,

takes up more space
than the previous one.
The background colour is
white and the font
colour is blue. Again,
these two colours are
contrasting.
Main Image
The image of this magazine is of
the singer Madonna. The picture
has a direct mode of address, as
she is looking at the audience.

This image is of another singer

Taylor Swift. Her mode of
address is direct and she is
smiling at the camera.
Cover Lines
The cover lines in the magazine ‘Q’ are located at the top
right-hand corner of the page. There are two colours used
which are white and red. White is used for the less
important text, while red is used for the important ones
which are in this case names of singers.

Here the cover lines in the magazine

‘Sugar’ are found on the right-hand side of
the magazine. The colours used here are
white, blue and red.
Puffs
The puff in ‘Q’ magazine is round and
has the GB flag as its background.
Some of the words are bold to make
them stand out. Other less important
words are normal.

Here we have a puff in the shape of a

star. The font is white, which stands
out against the pink background. We
also have images of clothes and
fashion accessories which tempts
people to purchase the magazine.
