SUBJECT: REQUEST TO AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT TO DEVELOP


A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI, THE SAVE A
LIFE FOUNDATION, AND MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC
SCHOOLS TO IMPLEMENT A FIRST RESPONSE EMERGENCY
TRAINING PROGRAM AT EIGHT SELECTED SCHOOLS

COMMITTEE: LEGISLATIVE RELATIONS, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND


PERSONNEL SERVICES

The City of Miami and the Save A Life Foundation are requesting permission to develop a
first response training program at eight select schools in the City of Miami. The program
provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum to students in kindergarten through
grade twelve, for the purpose of teaching life saving skills in an emergency situation. The
goal of the program is to expose children to the curriculum once a year for their entire
school career, with additional life saving skills added each school year. The program will be
implemented by City of Miami staff, including the City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue
Departments.

The schools selected by the City of Miami and the Save A Life Foundation are:

Elementary Schools Middle Schools Senior High Schools


Citrus Grove Citrus Grove Miami
Coral Way Shenandoah New World School of the Arts
Kensington Park
Shenandoah

The program will be implemented through a $100,000 grant received through the City of
Miami and the Save a Life Foundation.

No local funds are required.

ACTION PROPOSED BY That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida,


MR. FRANK J. BOLANOS: authorize the Superintendent to develop a partnership
between the City of Miami, the Save A Life Foundation,
and Miami-Dade County Public Schools to implement a
first response emergency training program at eight
selected schools.
