Touches
Personal

for Your Reception

By Megan Czycalla of Reichel’s Catering & Event Center

Your wedding day is the day that two individuals become

one. Endless hours of thinking, discussing, sometimes ar-
guing and planning go into this special day. The end result
should be a reflection of your individual personalities, family
dynamics and a portrait of this new couple, being joined in
marriage.

Since the reception expenses tend to encompass the larg-

est portion of your overall budget, the reception should be
the ultimate reflection of who you are as a couple. There are
many factors to consider for adding your personal touch.

What do you envision when you imagine your reception?

Are you looking for a place with natural lighting, outdoor
space, historical architecture or a strong theme? These
concepts form the foundation of a facility, and it is unlikely
that they can be altered. However, there are many other
items you can adjust to fit your personality, theme and
colors.

Are you looking for a place with natural

lighting, outdoor space, historical architecture
or a strong theme?
Color, in particular, can speak volumes about your per-
sonality. Couples with bold personalities may choose to
work with equally bold colors like fuchsia; those looking for
something timeless may choose a black-and-white theme;
and couples looking for elegance may choose rich jewel
tones. Colors can also be molded to themes surrounding
the seasons.

Whatever your color choice or theme, be sure to incorpo-

rate it in to your reception plans. Ask the facility what color
options you have for table linens and linen napkins. This
could be a great way to pull in color or accent it.
VENUES & catering
Dinner and beverage selections are another great
way to highlight your uniqueness as a couple. When
planning your menu selection, think about who you
are and your history as a couple. Do you share a
favorite food or a favorite memory revolving around
food? Perhaps there is a way to integrate the dinner
you had on your first date. A shared favorite food or
family recipe is another option.

If you don’t want to make a bold jump from the tra-

ditional wedding dinner, there are other ways to in-
corporate a special dish into your reception. Party
favors, appetizers or a late- night snack provide op-
portunities for this: For example, chips and salsa as
a late-night snack allow you to incorporate your love
of Mexican cuisine without making a large leap like
having a taco bar for dinner.

Whatever your color choice or theme,

be sure to incorporate it in to your
reception plans.
Keep the same concept in mind for beverages. If
you share a love of wine, perhaps a wine bar would
be a nice addition to cocktail hour. For coffee lovers,
a coffee bar is a nice after-dinner option. Is there
a specific drink that would highlight your personality,
history as a couple, theme or colors? If so, ask if it
could be displayed as a “drink of the night.”

Throughout the planning process, keep these con-

cepts in mind. It is not necessary to add personal-
ity to every small detail, but by adding just the right
amount here and there, your special day is sure to
be the perfect reflection of the future Mr. and Mrs.

Something Old,
Something New
By Carl Anderson Jr., Princess Bride Cinematic Video

Wedding day movie, take one. Fade-in from black. Ac-

tion! It is a sunny morning, the 24th day of October,
1967. A man steps out of his humble motel room,
and the heat of a Las Vegas day welcomes him as
he takes a walk down the strip, heading for the Sil-
ver Bell Wedding Chapel. This day is his wedding day,
and nervous anticipation grips his heart. He and his
red-headed bride have decided on the simplicity of a
short service with just two witnesses and a justice of
the peace. He opens the door of the small chapel, and
his eyes fall upon the slim girl with the bright red hair. He
approaches his bride, grips her hand in his and makes
his vows. This, he thinks, is for a lifetime of love. Cut.
Print it. Fade to black.
That was 39 years ago, and that man is still married to

old” in your family.

his red-haired bride. He is my father. I would give every-

thing to be able to know more of my parents’ mysteri-
ous love story. Who were their witnesses, and how did
they come to be there? What did my father say to my
mother as he gazed into her chestnut brown eyes and
exchanged rings of commitment? All of these elements
and perhaps a hundred more are only theirs alone.
The only glimpse into this memorable day we have as
a family is a single faded photograph of Mom and Dad
after the ceremony and their own faded memories of
that strange and special day in Las Vegas.
Photography & Video
Many people understand the long-term value of
hiring a videographer to be an integral part of
their wedding day. After all, we have a unique
skill: to be everywhere and nowhere at the
same time, visually crafting a unique video story
which will bring tears and laughter to your home
for many years, long after the sound of the final
note from the band has faded in your memory.
Years after the event, your memories of the day
become the “something old” in your family. Yet,
your high-definition video, produced on a Blu-
ray disc, is the “something new” that keeps your
unique wedding day fresh and vibrant, causing
laughter and tears on each anniversary.

High-definition video, produced

on a Blu-ray disc, is the “something
new” that keeps your unique
wedding day fresh and vibrant.
We live in revolutionary times of digital media,
and the high-definition Blu-ray disc will look and
sound as great many years from now as it did
the first time you watched it. I wish I had such
a creation from my dad and mom’s own day,
that hot, sunny morning on the Las Vegas strip
some 39 years ago. The real-life movie fades
to black, but with professional cinematic vid-
eography, with the new Blu-ray disc format, the
memories will never fade away.

Cut. Print it. Popcorn anyone?

Fashion & PLANNING
Dress it
Up
By Brenda Lundorff, The Bridal Boutique and Outlet

Now that he has proposed, the next step is to find you that
perfect wedding dress.

Before you start shopping, it is a good idea to look in bridal

magazines and on bridal websites to get an idea of what
styles you like. Remember that dresses look different on
your body than in the pictures, so keep an open mind. Feel
free to bring in pictures to bridal shops so they can help you
get started. Call the bridal stores that you plan to visit ahead
of time to make an appointment. (Not all bridal stores require
appointments but most do—especially on Saturdays.)

Choose two or three members of your family or your friends

to help you shop; their input will give you guidance on your
special day. Use the first shopping trip to pick out your
wedding gown, and make a second appointment for your
bridesmaids to pick out their dresses.

Ordering your dress a full year in advance

will give you time to find and order your
accessories, and allows time for altera-
tions.
When you do find your perfect gown, order it right away.
Many brides shop around for months, comparing each to
the special one they’ve already found, so when you know
you’ve found the right one, just go for it. Bridals stores never
know if a dress is going to be discontinued, so purchasing
early is a good idea, and a bridal gown usually takes six to
nine months to arrive at the store (if it doesn’t get delayed in
shipping for weeks!). Ordering your dress a full year in ad-
vance will give you time to find and order your accessories,
and allows time for alterations. Bridal shoes, jewelry, veils
and tiaras usually take six to eight weeks to arrive and you
need those before you start your alterations. Plan to start
your bridal alterations three months prior to your wedding.
Also, bring your personal attendant to all of your bridal gown
fittings.
Getting the Guys in Tuxedos

Trying to get the men in your wedding party to get their tuxedos or suits is like pulling
teeth. Often, groomsmen would prefer to wait until the last minute to get fitted, so it’s
best to take a few steps so the process runs smoothly.

The bride and groom should go to the tuxedo shop three to four months prior to their
wedding date to pick out their preferred tuxedo style. The prices of tuxedos depend
on the style and color, which are usually black, brown, ivory, tan, latte or gray. Many
tuxedo shops provide a complimentary groom’s tuxedo with six or more tuxedo rent-
als.

The bride and groom should go to the tuxedo shop three

to four months prior to their wedding date to pick out their
preferred tuxedo style.
When picking out your tuxedo, you also need to decide what color shirt you would
like, along with a vest and tie, so bring a color swatch of your bridesmaids’ dresses.
All tuxedo shops need the groomsmen’s and ushers’ measurements six to eight
weeks prior to your wedding. The tuxedos do not arrive until the week of your wed-
ding, usually on the Thursday before. Make sure all of your guys try on their tuxedos
before the day of your wedding to make sure they fit properly. As long as everyone
was measured professionally at a tuxedo or bridal store you should have a great fit!

Bride Guide
What NOT to WEAR
Advice to arrive at your next wedding in style

Attending a wedding is a very exciting time. You are invited to celebrate the
union of a couple in love and witness the formal commitment they are making
with each other. For this reason it is important you dress appropriately. With the
tips below, you will know the do’s and don’ts of what to wear to a wedding!

Advice for Her

Don’t wear white because it competes with the Bride!
Don’t worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers.
Do wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts.
Try to stay away from anything sleeveless or strapless unless covered by a
sweater, jacket, or wrap.
A soft floral dress (daytime), little black dress (evening) or a pastel suit would be
acceptable attire for the wedding.

Advice for Him

Don’t get too fancy, simple is stylish!
Leave your athletic socks at home, wear dress socks that match your outfit.
Make sure your tie matches your shirt!

Advice for All

Jeans, shorts, haltertops and tank tops are generally not appropriate attire.
Don’t wear tennis shoes, skating shoes, Etc… (Dress shoes are suggested)
Use good judgment. If the invitation doesn’t specify the formality of the event
and you feel you have to ask if something is appropriate to wear, it probably
is not.

Ring THE

By Erin Bitzan, D.J. Bitzan Jewelers

At a time in history when not much is certain, one thing we

can always count on is love. Even in challenging economic
times, most couples are still willing to invest in finding engage-
ment and wedding rings that serve as meaningful symbols
of the love they share. Now more than ever, couples are
seeking rings that are truly a unique expression of their love.
From classic solitaires to contemporary-inspired designs,
engagement rings are as creative and singular as the brides
that wear them. With the ever-evolving array of innovative
designs, bridal jewelry now has something for everyone.

Although finding the perfect ring might not be as easy as

falling in love, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Most
modern couples engage in the process of looking for rings
together, shopping around for style, value and selection.
The experience is part of the journey—some couples want
to take the scenic route while others race to the summit.
Finding the right ring for your lifestyle, budget and style can
be a long process, but when you find the perfect ring, it’s
like being on top of the world.

Now more than ever, couples are seeking

rings that are truly a unique expression
of their love.
•White metals are still white hot. The majority of bridal jewelry
is still predominantly made in white gold, platinum and pal-
ladium. Recently however, there’s been an increase in the
popularity of rose gold, yellow gold and two-tone mountings.
Choose the metal that flatters you; fashion changes but the
right ring will transcend the trends.
Jewelry
•Vintage-inspired jewelry reminiscent of heirloom
rings is having a romantic revival. A throwback to
an era of ultra-feminine glamour, a vintage design is
one you’ll love for a lifetime. Often created with tiny
yet exquisite micro-pavé-set diamonds on the band,
vintage designs achieve a dazzling look.

•Custom design is the expression of your unprec-
edented love. Many jewelry stores now offer a
custom-design process where you can turn your
dream ring into a reality. Often couples will look to
custom design when trying to find the perfect wed-
ding band to match their engagement ring. Start the
design process by consulting your local jeweler. Allow
enough time to fully engage in the process, refine
your ideas and let the designer carefully create your
exclusive design. From beginning to end, creating
a one-of-kind piece of jewelry that represents your
relationship is truly a memorable process.

There’s been an increase in the

popularity of rose gold, yellow gold
and two-tone mountings.

•Wedding Gifts. An unexpected wedding gift to

each other can be one of the most memorable
gifts couples will ever give and receive. This simple
gesture will be a priceless memory you’ll share.
Traditional gifts like a strand of pearls for the bride
and a handsome watch for the groom are timeless.
Choose gifts that are meaningful to you and fit your
budget. And remember: the greatest gift is the start
of your life together.

Top Five
Wedding Reception Trends
By Gina Artisensi-Skime, The Crown Room Banquet Center
The customized wedding. Couples are skipping traditional styles in
favor of individualized themes that truly represent them. Whether
1 it is a favorite pastime or hobby, sports team, or a custom mono-
gram to personalize their event, couples are taking those extra
steps to stay true to their vision.
Specialty linen. Also on the rise for 2010–2011: specialty linens.
There has been a significant increase in couples that also to carry
2 their colors or prints throughout the entire ceremony and recep-
tion. Couples want to carry that custom look into their ceremony
and reception with chair covers, sashes, table runners or overlays,
floor-length tablecloths and more.
Candy buffets. Although the candy buffet trend has been around
for a couple of years, it is still a top choice for favors. Some sim-
3 ply like the idea of giving their guests the option to choose their
candy based on their individual tastebuds, and some like the
décor aspect that a candy buffet can bring to their overall theme or
color choice. It’s a great way to be creative and thank your guests
for coming at the same time. Nothing symbolizes adulthood like mar-
riage, so take that chance to call on your inner child and indulge in
this sweet treat.
Late-night snacks. Most couples put an emphasis on their social-
hour appetizers and beverage selections and are now providing
4 a separate late-night treat for their guests to enjoy. You can usual-
ly plan on less than half of your guest count—or less, depending
on your guest list—being in attendance for “phase II” of your evening.
You will want to provide a fun and casual bite for your guests to in-
dulge in such as pizzas, build-your-own nachos, sliders, popcorn, or
a sweet-and-salty combination. You will want to keep your late-night
snacks light and easy.
Winter-wonderland wedding. If a fresh blanket of white snow
sounds like the ideal photo backdrop for you, then a winter
5 wedding is the way to go. For some couples, getting married
in the winter is what they had always imagined. Not only can
you escape to a warm destination on your honeymoon immediately
afterward, but it can also be a great way to save money, as some
vendors offer discounts in the winter months.

Picking
THE PERFECT

Flowers
By John Malikowski, Blooming Creations Floral & Gifts

Picking flowers is one of the most essential steps in the

wedding-planning process. Next to the bride, the wedding
flowers are one of the most photographed details of your
wedding day. It is crucial to have wedding bouquets and
centerpieces that fit both the style and theme of your perfect
wedding day.

Selecting the right florist to design and create your dream

bouquets and floral decorations can be a satisfying ac-
complishment on your wedding checklist if you follow these
steps:

Ask for referrals. When a florist is highly recommended by

another bride or photographer, you know they will do great
work on your wedding.

Attend bridal expos. You can experience fresh, real-life cre-

ations as well as examine the quality of the florist’s design
work. This will also allow you to form an impression about
a florist regarding how they make you feel when you meet
them in a room full of other brides.

Next to the bride, the wedding flowers are

one of the most photographed details of
your wedding day.
Make an appointment. Book a time to sit with a florist and
look at photos of their past creations, which will allow you to
see their designs in close detail. This is also a great time to
determine their knowledge of flowers and assess their wed-
ding floral experience level.

Plan, plan, plan. Have some floral ideas in mind when you
meet with your florist. Bring pictures from magazines or the
Flowers
Internet that reflect your vision. Have some colors
and flower choices in mind. If you’re unsure of
what you want, an outstanding florist should be
able to help you create that perfect combination
of colors and flowers to make your wedding flow-
ers a dream come true.

Pick your florist. Book the florist (by securing

them with a deposit) that makes you feel at ease
and comfortable. Find one who listens to your
ideas, but has ideas and suggestions for you,
as well. Select someone you really want to work
with, not just someone who is available on your
wedding day. Find a florist who is just as excited
about your flowers and wedding day as you are.

Picking your bridal bouquet is an important start

to a beautiful wedding day. Once the bride’s
bouquet flowers are chosen, the rest of the wed-
ding flowers—from the bridal-party flowers to the
corsages and boutonnieres—will fall into place
by incorporating the bouquet flowers throughout
all of the wedding flowers.

You can make an impressive and

beautifully elegant statement by
having large floral centerpieces
with multiple designs.
Once you’ve chosen your flowers, you’ll need to
create the perfect ceremony site design plan. If
you are having a traditional wedding, the aisle
you walk down should represent elegance truly
worthy of you as a bride. You need everything
from gorgeous pew decorations to amazing alter
pieces to make this a stunning vision.

Finally, it’s time to design the reception site—this

is your “wow factor.” You can make an impressive

and beautifully elegant statement by having large

floral centerpieces with multiple designs. These
designs should utilize different sizes to break up
the room’s space, ultimately giving the reception
site the true beauty that every bride deserves at
her wedding reception.

Advice from a Newlywed
As a recent bride who planned her own wedding, hundreds of things come
to mind anytime someone asks me for advice on planning his/her wedding.
But since there are books, websites and magazines bursting with helpful tips,
money-saving advice and go-to guides for how to plan a stellar wedding, I’ll give
just two pieces of advice.

The first is to make a Wedding Day Timeline. I’m not talking about a general
timeline of events; your wedding programs will do that just fine. I mean map out
everything from when your alarm is going off in the morning to who is driving you
and your new husband to the hotel on your wedding night. Write down every
detail you need to remember (think about florists, pictures, family arrivals, hair ap-
pointments and the timing of your dance). While you may not follow the timeline
exactly, it will save you the stress of trying to remember when and where you
need to be, along with other important people of the day.

My second and final piece of advice is to make sure that you take the time to
enjoy your big day. You’ve spent countless hours planning, preparing, stressing
and anticipating this day; the last thing you want to do is miss it. Believe me,
your wedding day will go faster than you ever thought possible, so do whatever
you can to soak in one of the most incredible
days of your life. - Erin Moser

Creative GET

By Paula Paulson, We’ve Got It Covered

Wedding decorations are important because they set the at-

mosphere of the party. They accent the reception venue and
the ceremony, making each fit for the occasion. Since deco-
rations are a matter of personal taste, the options are limitless
and quality can vary. The wedding decorations are going to
be what sets the entire feel of this day, so be sure to love the
decorations at both the ceremony and the reception.

The decorations can cover everything—from the tables to the

lighting—but also the invitations sent out to guests. An eye for
detail, lots of planning and help from expert vendors can bring
it all together for your special day.

The wedding decorations are going to be

what sets the entire feel of this day, so be
sure to love the decorations at both the
ceremony and the reception.
Your photographs will capture not only you and all your wed-
ding guests, but also all of the wedding décor in all of its glory.
When you choose your designs, think of that wedding album
and the décor that will be filling up many of the shots.

Some couples prefer a traditional wedding. In that case, it is

especially important for the bride and groom to choose wed-
ding décor that will represent their heritage— perhaps even
make the guests think they have been swept away to another
country. Even if the wedding is more casual, the flair for the
event should still be obvious as people walk into the wedding
reception.

Wedding décor covers so many different aspects of your

event, so hiring reputable vendors is a must (for the perfect
design and for your sanity!). Of course, make your desires and
expectations clear, but spending that extra bit of money on a
great vendor will be money well spent.

Bride Guide
Tips for Changing Your Name

You will most likely need a certified copy of your marriage

license before you can submit for a name change. However,
you can get the necessary information ready prior to your
wedding.
Many people need to contact the following agencies for a
name change:
•Social Security Administration
•Passport
•Department of Motor Vehicles (Driver’s License)
•Employer and/or School
•Financial and Credit Card companies
•Insurance companies
•Utility companies
A good rule of thumb is to
look through your mail and
see who continues to send
you mail to your old name.
Contact these institutions
and send them the neces-
sary paperwork to get your
name changed. This can
be a time-consuming pro-
cess, but it is necessary to
prevent major headaches
down the road!

“I Do“
From the First Impression to

By LeRae Rengel, Rengel Printing

When does the first impression of your wedding happen? At

the church? At the reception? Actually, the true first impres-
sion happens when you formally ask your family and friends
to join you on your special day—with your wedding invita-
tions. You can create invitations that are uniquely yours.

The wedding invitations are your guest’s first glimpse of your

wedding. They set the tone through design and specific
color combinations, and suggest the event’s overall level of
formality.

The first steps are to decide on the vision, the colors that
you want integrated into the invite and the quantities needed.
You may choose to create a traditional, formal wedding in-
vite or a modern invite based on the wedding motif that you
envision.

The wedding invitations are your guest’s

first glimpse of your wedding.

An invitation can consist of several customary elements: an

outer envelope; the invitation; a reception card; a response
card that is self-addressed or includes a self- address, un-
sealed envelope; an accommodations card; thank-you
cards; and, in some cases if time allows, a save-the-date
card or magnet. In designing a custom wedding invite, you
will want to apply style and uniqueness to each piece, keep-
ing them all socially correct and applying wedding invite eti-
quette as well. They can be worded and arranged in count-
less ways to reflect the style of the occasion. You should
integrate your wedding colors into your invitations to tie your
theme together.
There are a large variety of ink colors, type-
styles and papers to choose from to create
a unique wedding ensemble. In designing a
custom invitation, please allow enough time
for the actual design, proofing, printing, as-
sembling, addressing and mailing. Invitations
should be mailed out six to eight weeks prior
to your big day. Request RSVPs with the re-
sponse card two to three weeks prior to the
event. Remember to order at least 25 extra
for last minute guest additions, mistakes and
to have a couple for keepsakes.

You should integrate your wedding

colors into your invitations to tie
your theme together.

Creating a custom wedding collection will truly

be a personal reflection of your special day!
They will create your love story from the first
impression to “I Do.”

Music & Entertainment
PartyTime
by Adam Welz, Prime Time DJ’s

Your reception counts for at least half of your wedding day ex-
perience, so creating the perfect atmosphere for you and your
guests is vital to the success of your reception. With myriad
DJs available, each with distinctive experiences, prices and spe-
cialties, the decision can seem overwhelming. However, when
choosing your DJ, it is important that they don’t just hold your
reception, but that they throw you a PARTY!

Your DJ should be able to use their knowledge

to generate a reception that is yours.

P: Professional
When searching the seemingly endless list of local DJs, it is im-
portant to find one that is professional on every level. This means:
Is your DJ polite and respectful on the phone? Does he/she have
a professional Web site? Do they have professional equipment?
Are they professional when handling your needs? Remember,
this is your special day and you do not have to settle!

A: Accommodating
Your DJ should be accommodating to you and your requests.
They should be able to answer questions and make suggestions
that allow for a successful evening. With a wealth of experience,
your DJ should be able to use their knowledge to generate a
reception that is yours. Your style, your way!

R: Resourceful
Being resourceful is an extremely important attribute for your DJ
to have. This means finding a DJ who has the ability to find clever
ways to overcome difficult situations. Though you may not ex-
perience any problems at your reception, having a DJ who can
improvise is still a necessity. A resourceful DJ will understand
music (songs, styles, etc.) and how to relate that to the genre
of people present. When your DJ is resourceful, the success of
your reception is guaranteed.
T: Tactful
A tactful DJ will have people skills. Since this
special day will be celebrated by a vast array of
people (with different backgrounds, personalities,
from different generations), it is important that you
have a DJ who is able to unify the group. When
a DJ is tactful, the reception is made special to
every guest.

Though you may not experience

any problems at your reception,
having a DJ who can improvise
is still a necessity.

Y: Yours
Your DJ should be flexible and offer suggestions in
the overall design, but also sensitive to any needs
or desires you may have. A reception that is cre-
ated with your best interests and requests in mind
will quickly become a magical and memory-filled
celebration!

Style
On Time, IN

AND AS I LIKE

By Tami Spanier, of Pearl Limousine

As you plan your perfect day, you need to consider

your transportation.  If you have planned an elegant
wedding day with several attendants, the car service
that will probably come to mind is limousine. Whether
your wedding party is large or small, a limousine is a
great option.  Extravagant or economical, there is a
package, size and color for every want or need.

Other transportation choices may be a horse-drawn

carriage, a vintage car, a party bus or your Uncle Lou-
ie’s tractor and wagon. Whatever your choice, make it
special and memorable for the most anticipated day
of your life.

Most owners and companies are very

willing to show off their rides.

As with any big decision, there are concerns to

weigh.  The weather may be an issue if your choice
of transportation is open-air; have a back-up plan in
place in case of rain. Also, make sure that you choose
a reputable company to provide your transporta-
tion.  Your next-door neighbor or a friend of a friend
may have a limousine or vintage car they are willing to
rent inexpensively, but if they don’t show up on time,
or don’t have the proper licensing or insurance, you
could be setting yourself up for disappointment and
frustration. Before booking your ride, do a little home-
work. Talk with friends and family as to what they have
seen, heard or used. Many companies are rated with
the Better Business Bureau. Go online or call them for
Transportation
more information.  Ask to see the limousine,
car or buggy. Most owners and companies
are very willing to show off their rides.

Limousines have become the most popu-

lar type of wedding transportation over the
past decade. They are usually beautiful and
provide a safe alternative to driving, espe-
cially if you have chosen to have any type of
alcoholic beverage before or after your cer-
emony. Once a car is chosen for you and
the wedding party, it’s time to think about
your guests.

Wedding-guest transportation is a newer

trend, but has become more and more

Honeymoon Travel Tips
By Nichole Winter, Destination Vacation

Your honeymoon is a much-needed vacation together after all

your pre-wedding stress. It’s a time when you two can enjoy
each other, relax, or maybe try a new adventure. Wherever
you may want to go—whether it’s skiing in the mountains,
cruising through the inside passage of Alaska, or relaxing on a
beach—here are five simple but important tips to follow.

Don’t be afraid to ask your travel agent

what is a typical budget for the type of
honeymoon you want.
1. Decide where to go. Start by visualizing yourself enjoying
your honeymoon, and be able to describe it in three words,
such as warm, sunny beach; crisp, mountain air; or winetast-
ing and vineyard tour. Your words can help narrow down your
desired destination options. With each of you coming up with
three words, this will tell you if you have the same style of hon-
eymoon in mind or if you’ll have to blend your ideas together.

2. Discuss a budget. This is sometimes hard to decide if you

have not traveled much, so don’t be afraid to ask your travel
agent what is a typical budget for the type of honeymoon you
want. From there you can discuss together what budget you
are comfortable with spending.

This will be one of the most important

vacations the two of you will ever take as a
married couple, so make it memorable.
3. Use a travel agent. They are experts who know the destina-
tions and resorts. Travel agents are there to help you, so ask
questions. With their knowledge, they will help you plan your
vacation of a lifetime by finding the right destination, advising
just the perfect resort, or planning that amazing excursion the
two of you have always wanted to experience.
Travel & Accommodations
4. Allow enough time to plan. This can be very important because you may
need time to arrange for passports or visa’s and to make sure your license is
up-to-date. You may even have to discuss how long you want to be gone and
plan for your work vacation time. But planning early will help prevent pre-wedding
stress—there are already many other items on you wedding to-do list.

5. Have Fun. Do not forget that this is an exciting time of your life, so have fun
planning. This will be one of the most important vacations the two of you will ever
take as a married couple, so make it memorable.

• Can I get my rings engraved?
• How often should I have my rings checked out?
• What is my warranty?
• When should I purchase my wedding jewelry?
Questions for the Caterer:
• Will the caterer provide wait staff? How many people will each waiter serve/
work the buffet?
• Will the wait staff be able to set out place cards and centerpieces, or will you
need to find someone else to care of that?
• Who will oversee the event the day of your wedding?
• Will the caterer attractively present the food on the plate or in the buffet tray?
Can you see examples of past work?
• Are there extra charges that will be included with the final cost: security deposit,
sales tax, gratuity, or bar fees?
• Does the caterer charge for cake cutting?
• Where will the food be prepared?

Questions for the Baker:

• How does the baker establish pricing? By the slice? Flavors and/or fillings? Decoration?
• Does the baker provide a cake knife and server?
• Is there a separate fee for that?
• Will the baker deliver and set up the cake or will someone else need to pick it up?
• Is there an additional delivery fee?
• Are the cakes and desserts prepared fresh?
• How soon before the wedding are they baked?

• Do you like his or her samples of work?
• How would you describe your style?
• Do you like a wedding album they’ve created?
• Would you want yours to look like this?
• Do you seem to get along well with the photographer and videographer? You
will be spending most of your wedding day with them, so make sure you feel
comfortable with their personality and their communication style.
