BACTERIAL ADHESIN IN Staphylococcus aureus

T.PRADEEP
Fibronectin binding protein(FnBPA)
• FnBPA mediates internalization of S. aureus
into endothelial cells & promotes rapid
aggregation of human platelets
• FnBPA have high affinity binding repeats
(FnBRs) for fibronectin
• The cell wall anchoring region are all C
terminal region
• There are 11 FnBRs in A domain in which 6
has high affinity to N – terminal domain of Fn
2F1-4FI OF FIBRONECTIN
3F1-5F1 OF FIBRONECTIN
Intrinsic disorder has been exploited in 2
different ways

•   It allows the formation of high affinity

interaction of short peptide with a modular
protein
• 2. When combined with the tandem zipper
formation it facilitates the closely spaced
binding of multiple copies of Fn
How to reduce the infection?

• Combining similar residues which is present in

the fibronectin & fusing with liposome so that the
fibronectin binding protein will show high affinity
only to the liposome fused fibronectin.
• This is one of the hypothetical ways in reducing
infection
