The Term Majlis has both a grammatical

meaning and a meaning which relates to

Aza-e-Husain. In its technical sense, a
Majlis is a meeting, a session or
gathering. In reference to Aza-e-Husain, it
means a gathering to mourn Imam Husein
(as).
Aza-e-Husain was a phenomenon which
gripped Muslim Conscience immediately
after the tragedy of Kerbala – and it was
used as a tool for the revival of Imam`s
timeless and everlasting mission. The main
purpose of Azadari is therefore to continue
and perpetuate the mission of Imam (as)
by carrying out the obligations of Amr Bil
Maroof and Nahi Anil Munkar.
And that is precisely what Azadari and this
whole Ashra should be about. With every
tear that we shed, we pledge to resist
oppression, injustice, immorality, inequity
and falsehood.
Aza-e-Husain is all about expressing
emotions of grief, anger and above all
repulsion for all that Yezid stood for.
These emotions, however, remain futile
and hypocritical unless they are
accompanied by a will to reform, both at
the individual level and the community
level.
