CAFGU members seek justice

Three members of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU)

assigned in Compostela Valley Province filed on Monday, November 22, cases against
NPA members for grave threat and illegal detention.

CAFGU members Rey Ciba and Panpilo Lupogan were off duty and spending
their precious time with their respective families in Barangay Langgawesan, Maragusan,
Compostela Valley Province on October 29 this year when armed men belonging to the
New People’s Army barged into their houses and forcibly brought them to the house of
a certain Junior Lagungan at Sitio Hanginan of same barangay. A female communist
and NPA leader who ntroduced herself as “Jen-Jen” told them to resign from the service
lest they would execute one CAFGU member who is a resident of same place as
“sample”. The NPA released the two after five hours.

Another CAFGU member, Albert Meñiza, was snatched from his home in Sitio
Bango, Barangay Ngan, Compostela, Comval Province on November 2, 2010 by three
female NPA members tied him up and brought to a forested area where other NPA
members were waiting. In his sworn statement, Meñiza affirmed that NPA members tied
him up while their leader, identified as “Jason” of the NPA’s Pulang Bagani Company,
threatened to kill him if he does not resign from the service before December 1 this
year. He was released after six hours of detention and intimidation.

Lieutenant Colonel Lyndon Paniza, Commander of the 72nd Infantry Battalion

which provides administrative support and supervision to all CAFGU members assigned
in 10ID AOR lauded the decision of the three CAFGU members who came forward to
file the case against the NPA. Colonel Paniza said, “They have just shown us all that as
members of the government security forces entrusted with the authority and the
necessary tools to protect the people, we do not use this authority and tools to seek
vengeance for the wrong done against our person, instead, we submit ourselves to the
rule of law.”
