Helical antennas are ideal for amateur satellite communications. Further detail is provided below:
Broadside Helical
Used as standard FM receiving antennas for many factory produced motor vehicles
Used in most basic style of aftermarket HF and VHF mobile helical
Broadside-mode helical antennas are generally used in situations where a smaller antenna is an
important operational factor. These antennas were first used with Citizen’s Band radios in the
US and Australia during the late 1960s, and are widely used today as typical FM receiving
antennas in automobiles.
These types are best suited for animal tracking and space communications
Most often used with hand held satellite communication devices such as telephones, radios, and
Global Positioning Systems.
A loop antenna is primarily used for AM Broadcast and the Longwave bands.
The loop can be used for improving the performance of a poorly designed broadcast receiver.
Depending on the type of antenna that is in the receiver determines how the loop can be
attached.
A loop when properly balanced can be used to "null down" AC Line noise, TV Sweep Harmonics,
or other locally generated interference.
Loopstick antennas also work well in low-frequency applications such as RFID (card/tag readers)
used in fleet management, parking gates, airports, access doors, and inventory control
applications.
