This is a candid shot of the foot of the erudite Miss Megawattie Kanyakumarie Balasubramanian, my interpreter during my sojourns into the Sundarbans in West Bengal. She's fluent in Tamil and Bengali. A graduate in Ecology from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu, she is also an accomplished photographer. We normally study the mangroves forest together, she concentrating on the economic benefits while I focus on conservation and preservation methods. This picture was taken on one of the few isolated and sporadic beaches in the area. The incongruity of such well kempt feet, in the mudflats of the Ganges Delta, is what makes this a striking image. PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUE: Auto-bracketing helped to get the exposure and colour saturation right. This image also affirms the well proven adage that "a close up is as informative as a long shot"...IN THIS CASE, A BEACH SCENE. An on-the-spot pedicure brightened the nails.
