REPORTING HAZARDS It is everybody's responsibility to take ownership of OH&S FOR HAZRDS You must fill out an OH&S hazard reporting form Forms can be obtained from the front office At common law reasonably foreseeable risks must be guarded against WHAT IS A HAZARD Any condition or substance that has the potential to cause any injury or harm to the health of a person HAZARD CLASSIFICATION Physical - Cause injury Chemical - poisons cause cancer Biological - cause disease Mechanical/electrical - electrocution Psychological - workplace stressors OH&S RESPONSIBILITIES WORKERS Section 20 of the OHS act 2000 states that as a worker you must: - take reasonable care for the health and safety of your co-workers who may be affected by your actions - Cooperate with your employer in anything that they do or require, in order to ensure a safe workplace You must: - ensure that your actions do not put others at risk - Work safety - Use and maintain machinery and equipment properly - Ensure that your work area if free of hazards Cooperating with your employer may include: - taking notice of signs - Adhering to speed limits - Carrying out work in a safe manner - Participating in safety training Section 22 states that you must not be charged for anything that your employer provides or does in relation to OH&S - e.g. you should not have to pay for training courses or protective equipment
