1. The set point of the control system is given a step change of 0.1 units. Plot the sketch of
C(t) as a function of time.

a. What is the maximum value of C and at what time does it occur?

C max = .116

t max = 1.5959

b. What is the offset?

Offset = 0.1 – 0.0888
= 0.0112
2. The control system a shown contains a three-mode controller.

Given: τD = τi = 1 and τ1 = 2

For K=0.5

a. Sketch of C(t) as a function of time

b.

t @ Cmax = 6.1

C max = 1.1762

t max = 5.9936
c.

Offset = 1 – 0.9997
= 0.0003

For K = 2

a. Sketch of C(t) as a function of time

b.
C max = 1.1402

t max = 4.3666

c.

Offset = 1 – 0.9999
= 0.0001

3. The location of the load change in a control loop may affect the system response. In the
block diagram shown, a unit-step change in load enters at either location 1 or location 2.
a. Sketch of transient response to a unit step change to both U1 and U2

Sketch of transient response to a unit step change in U1 alone.

Sketch of transient response to a unit step change in U2 alone.

b.)

Cmax= 1.6288
Tmax=2.9242

Offset = 1.1818 – 1
= 0.1818
