At the time of this writing, the version of Samba provided with Red Hat Linux is 2.0.3,
which should be suitable for most installations. However you may have a need to
upgrade to use the latest package.

As well as the source archives,Samba is also available for Red Hat Linux in the form
of binary RPM package files (RPMstands for Red Hat Package Manager). By far,the
greatest benefit of using the provided RPM is that all files and directories are correctly
created for you in locations that integrate into Red Hat Linux’s file structure. This
removes the need to modify the system’s configuration and therefore helps maintain the
system’s integrity. As a bonus,a working sample configuration file (/etc/smb.conf) is
also provided.
