What is role-playing?

-In role-playing, participants act out


characters in a predefined "situation“.

-Role playing allows people to take risk-


free positions.

-Role playing has these components :-


“Situation“; “Roles” & “Goals”
-To encourage Active Participation.

-To dramatize proposed changes.

-An enlightening and interesting way to


help people see a problem from another
perspective.

- To make players Interactive and more


Confident.

-- Role playing also shows how people


stereotype others
- A common application of role playing is
employee training

- Role playing helps when interaction among


participants is needed to break down barriers or
reduce conflict or tension

- Role playing is also used to bring expert opinion


to bear on a problem.
- A full range of representatives of community groups, interest
groups, or key stakeholders can participate.
 
-Role playing is usually best with informed participants.

- A trained leader describes the process orally..


 
- Face-to-face contact is essential in role playing

- Evaluation is essential to the outcome

- Role playing should be done sometimes spontaneously


•Role playing requires a trained leader

•Costs tend to be high in terms of staffing

•Role playing is part of an ongoing process to develop


cooperation among participants.

•Preparation includes developing a situation and roles

•Community representatives can be consulted

•Establishing clear and achievable goals is critical

•A time limit should be imposed with light and friendly


atmosphere .
•Observers or non-players may be invited to
follow the action
•Role playing is part of a more extensive
involvement process.
 
•Role playing is used as an ice-breaker
•Role playing requires significant time and
skills,
•Participants may be uncomfortable during the play but
will learn a lot.
•The outcome is unpredictable, even with a strong leader.
