ACUTE NASOPHARYNGITIS PROBABLY VIRAL

-3months to 6 years old(young children)

Virus(Rhinovirus, RSV, PREDISPOSING FACTORS:


Respiratory droplet/Airborne Transmission -environment(smoke, dust, crowded)
Adenovirus,Corona Virus, etc)
Bacteria(Streptococcus Aureus/GABHS) -infectious disease of relative or watcher

INFECTION of the Upper Respiratory System


LABORATORY: Edema and vasodilation on the mucosa of the URI
- WBCs, monocytes, segmenters -congested turbinates, hyperemic pharyngeal wall
Colds + Watery Nasal Discharge
- Hct, Hgb

Hypertrophy of Goblet Cells( production of Mucus)


Cough due to increased secretions
and spreading infection
What are the symptoms?
-The attack often begins with the -exogenous pyrogens produced by the
child losing consciousness,eyeballs microorganism triggers the release of the
ralling upward and shortly Sudden onset of FEVER (38.7 ⁰c)
Endogenous pyrogens by the macrophages
afterwards the body, legs and arms
go stiff.
-The head is thrown backwards and
the legs and arms begins to jerk.
-The skin goes pale and may even If greater than 40 ⁰c- febrile convulsion -the seizure threshold of children is low
turn blue briefly. 40.3 ⁰c -increased interleukin-1 increases
-The attack ends after a few minutes neuronal excitability
and the shaking stops. The child goes -but the precise clinical and pathological
limp, and then normal colour and expalanation is not yet known
consciousness slowly return.
