In Dec 2007, at least two fatal dog attacks on people were reported: One in UK ‘and another Australia, Currently, list of potentially dangerous dog breeds has been legislated under the Second Schedule of the Animals and Birds (Dog Licensing and Control) Rules [AVA has reviewed and proposes to intioduce new measures to tighten the Control of potentially dangerous dogs to minimise dog attacks on people and animals, Now measures to be introduced 1) Transfer fighting breeds of dogs from Part Il to Part lof the Second Schedule, The Perro De Presa Canario, Cane Corso and Dogue De Bordeaux would be affected 2) Part I willbe divided into Part Ifa) and Part l(b) Par a Dogs currently under Part II but are considered to be potentially more dangerous would be moved to Part Ia). Addiional conditions would apply to the keeping of such dogs. AVA proposes the Rottweiler and its crosses to be moved from Part Il to Part la), arto) ‘The remaining breeds in the existing Part Il dogs wil fall under the Part Il These breeds are = Bull Terrier = Doberman Pinscher "= German Shepherd Dog with its related breeds such as Belgian ‘Shepherd Dog and East European Shepherd Dog = Mastifs including Bull Masti 1 Crosses of the above 3} Only one dog per premises, Only one dog from Part | or Part Ia) is permited to be kept in one premises However, this regulation does not apply fo existing inensed Part | or Part Ia) dogs in a premises. A premises can have another two (2) dogs that are not ‘rom Part or Part Ifa init. 4) Conditions for keeping Part ia) dogs. ‘Must be leashed and securely muzzled when in a public place. All dogs in Part l(a) must be microchipped, This applies to both ‘exsting and newly licensed dogs, (Owners must take up an insurance policy for at least $100,000 Owners must take up a banker's guarantee of 2,000. This would be forfeited ifthe dog is not on leash or muzzled; bites a person or is reported los. 1 Newly licensed dogs must undergo obedience training '5) Conditions for keeping Part Il) dogs. ‘= Must be leashed and securely muzzled when in a public place ‘= All dogs in Part llfo) must be microchipped. If the dog is found to be aggressive, AVA proposes to impose the folowing control measures on such dogs Must be leashed and securely muzzled when in a public place, Must be microchipped, ‘= Owmers must take up an insurance policy or at least $100,000, "© Owmers must take up a banker's guarantee of $2,000. This would be forfeited ifthe dog is not on leash or muzzled; bites a person or 's reported lost.
