C-46 AFFIDAVIT I, Wimess No. 1], MAKE OATH AND SAY AS FOLLOW: 1, T have personal knowledge of the facts and matters hereinafter deposed to save and except where the same are stated to be made upon information and belief and where so stated I verily believe them to be true. 2. Tam aware of the order of the Chief Justice made September 24, 2010 and I elect to avail myself of the protections authorized by that order, 3. Lam a resident of the FLDS community of Bountiful located near Creston British Columbia, 4, Tam now age 25 and unmarried. I grew up in Bountiful and have lived here my entire Tite 5. Twas raised in a polygamous family consisting of our father, 3 mothers and 26 children in total. 6. __Lhope and expect to be married one day in accordance with the principles of my fait. I believe that the marriage covenant is a promise made by a man and his wife, or wives, to live right together before God. Marriage must occur under the direction of the Prophet or the oneshe ‘man God has called to do this work. Although I know that I have the option to say ‘yes* or ‘no’ to the person I am called by the Prophet to marry I believe that the Prophet is inspired of God on these matters, I expect that I will accept the direction of the Prophet even though it may be the cease that I do not know, or do not know well the person I am to marry. 7. I know that this is difficult for people outside our religion to understand. But I believe that the covenant of marriage is one of the most important duties in our faith. 1 know that I will have the obligation to my wife or wives to treat them equally and with respect. I accept that itis my duty to provide for my wife or wives and stay true to them for all eternity. I also believe that it is my duty to care for and raise all of the children I may be blessed with. 8. Lam not afraid of marrying someone I don’t know or haven't met, because I know she will be someone the Prophet recommends, who is virtuous and kind. I will have a choice on who Iwill marry because I want to marry whoever God reveals to the Prophet. 9. If my marriage is not happy and does not work out, I know that the leaders of the church will do everything possible to help us out but I also know that if it cannot be worked out then it is possible that I will be separated ftom my wife. 10. have never seen or heard of young men being expelled from the community, there being not enough women for them to marry. Their families love them and wanted each one to stay and live their religion. 11, Many years ago I witnessed a man give his son a boot to the rear, but I have never seen or heard of discipline in this community which leaves lasting hurt or wounds, I have never heard of «a parent breaking bones or causing his or her child to bleed, I know that if @ man abuses his wife or children and the leadership of the Church is made aware of it that his family will be taken from him and given to a man who will love and care for them carefully. I know this seems harsh. 12, Lexpect that people have behaved badly in our community and perhaps abuses have occurred. In that way I suppose we are like any community. But we do not condone it. 13, I sure think it would be a change for the better if polygamy was not a crime. We could spend less on lawyers and more on our families.
