Spiral Hat

Materials:
Yarn - Noro Silk Garden [45% Silk, 45% Kid Mohair, 10%
Lambswool; 110 yards (101 meters); 50 grams (1.76 ounces)]
1 ball
Needles - US size 6 circular needle 16” in length, US size 7
circular needle16” in length, US size 7 size double-pointed
needles, US size G crochet hook (for optional edging at
bottom of hat)
Notions - a tapestry needle, a stitch marker

Gauge: 20 sts/4” in Stockinette st on larger needle. Take time to check gauge

Sizes: One size fits most

Measurements: hat measures 20” in circumference, post-blocking

Abbreviations:
CO = cast on
K = knit
K2tog = knit two together
K3tog = knit three together
P = purl
SC= single crochet
sl st= slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
yo = yarn over

Instructions:

Brim:
With smaller needles, CO 90 sts, place marker, join for working in the round

Work in 1x1 ribbing (*K1, P1, repeat from *) for 10 rows

Hat Body:
Change to larger needles

Round 1: *K4, yo, K2tog, repeat from * to end of round


Round 2: K all sts

Repeat these two rounds until hat measures approximately 6” from beginning

Round 1: *K3, yo, K3tog, repeat from * to end of round - 85 sts


Decreasing:

Round 2 and all even numbered rounds: K all sts

Round 3: *K2, yo, K3tog, repeat from * to end of round - 70 sts

Round 5: * K1, yo, K3tog, repeat from * to end of round - 55 sts

Round 7: *yo, K3tog, repeat from * to end of round - 40 sts

Round 9: *K2tog, repeat from * to end of round - 20 sts

Cut yarn and using a tapestry needle weave tail through remaining sts twice. Pull top of hat closed.

Optional Edging:

With crochet hook join yarn at bottom of hat. SC once in each st of CO edge. Sl st in initial SC to join.
End off. Weave in all ends.
