WATERTOWN —
The Watertown Educators Association has ratified a recent teacher contract agreement after
months of negotiations with the School Committee.
Committee members are expected to follow suit during their meeting on Thursday.
WEA President Debra King told the Watertown TAB & Press that the contract, agreed upon
by both parties in January, was ratified by the union on Feb. 4 but refused to go into details
until it is set in stone.
The Feb. 7 regular School Committee meeting was rescheduled to Feb. 10 after the
announcement of the contract ratification was not posted at Town Hall in time for the
meeting, School Committee Chair Tony Paolillo said.
“We sent it down there and it didn’t get posted, but I think it had to do with all the chaos of
the snow,” Paolillo said. “We are going to vote on the contract on Thursday in open session.”
A tentative agreement was reached on Jan. 25 after negotiations that had gone on since last
August and included three sessions with a mediator. Paolillo told the Watertown TAB &
Press that there was a lot of work on both sides and the agreement is good news.
The next School Committee meeting will be held on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Town Council
Chambers.
