Watertown woman involved in Washburn Street wheelchair

accident dies

WATERTOWN —
The 88-year-old Watertown woman who was reportedly sideswiped and knocked from her
wheelchair on Washburn Street last year has died as a result of her injuries and other medical
conditions.
Valentina Guiragossian passed away on Dec. 12 in a Marblehead rehabilitation center as a
result of injuries sustained in the November accident, as well as cardiovascular disease,
Watertown Police Lieutenant Michael Lawn reported to the Watertown TAB & Press.
The incident was reported on Nov. 18, 2010 at 1:18 p.m. Lawn reported that a man was
opening the door of a Ford Escape SUV to help Guiragossian inside when a vehicle struck
the wheelchair and knocked her out of the chair and into the street.
According to reports, the impact broke the front wheel of the chair and left Guiragossian
with some injuries. She was transported to Beth Israel hospital.
The car was described as possibly being a hatchback. No other details have been provided.
The accident remains under investigation by the Watertown Police Department and the
Middlesex District Attorney’s office. Anyone having any information in regards to this
