The purpose of this document is to serve as a guide for the FLM technician to carry out the
Preventive Maintenance task on the GSM-R Network
The present document is only for internal use inside Nokia Siemens Networks.
The Preventive Maintenance is setup to help the optimal maintenance of the equipment on the GSM
Network. The sites would be checked quarterly (outdoor, indoor). The FLM technician checks the
Network Element (HW\SW) and the cabling installed.
2.2 Faults
All faults detected by this procedure will be reported back to the BSS responsible who will in turn
request the opening of a trouble ticket for the corresponding troubleshooting.

3.1 Upload Inventory Data File (IDF)
Upload IDF
Upload IDF
Click Submit
Additional Information: The attributes DESTDIR and FILE are optional. If no special path or file name is
entered, the file is uploaded to the default directory:
C:\...\LMT<version>\IDF\upload, OVERWRITE=<yes> of the IDF Evolution. If the attribute
OVERWRITE=<yes> is selected, a former version of an uploaded IDT file will be overwritten.
System Response:
In the “Message Viewer” window, the command result is displayed:“OPERATION COMPLETED”.

Command Tree:
Applicability:
Command Description:
This command executes the uploading of the IDF (Inventory Data File) from the BTSE flash EPROMs to
the LMT hard disk.
Long Names:
System Response: The configuration data of the BTSE are loaded to the LMT PC and are then
converted to script files: SCRIPT1P.LMT, SCRIPT2P.LMT, SCRIPT3P.LMT, SCRIPT4P.LMT,
SCRIPT5P.LMT, SCRIPT6P.LMT. These files are written into the BKBTS\BTSPLUS subdirectory. After
this process the following message is displayed: “Get HW operation is completed.”
After the selection of the Backup BTS entry, the following window will displayed. Backup BTS contains
also Restore functionalities. Then, by selecting the Backup BTS entry in the File menu, the user will
access both Backup and Restore functionalities.
File Menu
According to the BTS Phase, both Get and Restore operations are available (phase 2) or only Get
operation is available (Phase 3).
Backup BTS allows the user to store more than one BTS configurations. Therefore, the user is asked to
provide the name of the configuration that is currently being saved (see following Fig). Later, when the
user will need to restore a BTS configuration, he will refer to the name of a previously saved configuration
by selecting it.
In case the user decides to overwrite it, all data of the previous configuration will be lost and replaced by
the new configuration information. If the user wants to keep also the old configuration he must change the
name of the current one being saved. As the backup process starts, all LMT panels are unavailable and
the only action the user may do is to stop (Abort) the backup procedure (see following Fig).
The previous Backup window informs the user about the type of operation in progress, the name of the
backup configuration that is being stored ("Backup1" in the example), the type and version of the
connected BTS (Btsep BR 8.0) and the amount of BTS data that has been stored (progress bar). The
user is only allowed to stop the Backup procedure by clicking on the “Abort” button. By clicking the “Abort”
button on the progress bar window, the backing up process is stopped and no configuration is saved.
The user has now created an “image” of the BTS configuration which is stored locally in the Backup BTS
directory of the LMT installation: however if the user manually modifies the files stored in such directory
the correct execution of the back up procedure is not granted anymore and the load should be reinstalled.
Once the configuration has been stored, the user can choose to repeat the entire procedure (Get) or to
continue working with LMT (OK).
5 Visual Inspection
A visual inspection of all delivered racks must be executed to secure that these racks are not damaged
and the quantity and location of the modules is correct.
A BS-240 / 240 II consists of one Base Rack, 1–2 Extension Racks (one Extension Rack for BS-240XL/
240XL II rack number 1), and 1–5 Service Racks. The numbering of the racks is shown in the following
table.
The following table gives an overview of which modules can be installed in the rack-types.
The entire BTSE contains several cells called BTS: Up to 12 Cells are available.
Check whether the BTSE modules are correctly configured.

The TX antenna coax jumper cable must be directly connected to the 7/16" FICOM/(F)DUAMCO antenna
connector.
RF System Cabling
There are several RF boards interconnected with RF-cables. Check whether the corresponding Carrier
Units (CU modules) are connected to their branching equipment FICOM, (F)DUAMCO, DIAMCO.
Handle with extreme care when connecting/changing modules!
