All of my Prince family descendents were born in Herefordshire. My mother Muriel was born in Brook Cottage, Lingen on June 27th
1922. Following her birth this family would spend two years living in the Kington Uinon Workhouse in Kington before they were brought
to Canada, arriving on Mom’s second birthday in 1924. Mom and three of her siblings were then placed for adoption in Ontario, Canada.

Mr. James Nott was born at Letton, Herefordshire on January 11th of 1829. He was
the son of James Nott and his wife Margaret Edwards. Mr. Nott lived with his family
at the Farlands Farm. Mr. Nott became a Methodist in 1849, then a preacher for
upwards of 38 years. Mr. Nott was responsible for the building of two chapels, one
built in 1855 and the other, the Lingen Chapel,
in 1878. He was greatly influenced and encour-
aged by Mr. W J Gisborne, a member of the
Knighton Board of Guardians. Lingen Chapel The original key to the church
was opened by Mr. Gisborne on the 26th of resting of the grave stone of
June 1877 with a ceremony culminating in a tea Jame’s son Henry Nott
for 400.

Mr. Nott married Jane Child in 1855 and together their children included: Henry
James,William John, Beatrice Jane, Florence, Agnes, George, Humphrey Thomas,
Maria, and Margaret.

Mr. Nott was held in the highest esteem by his neighbors. He was known to be a kind,
gentle man with an open hand. His last day was spent preaching the word and visiting
the sick. He died suddenly and alone outside of
his home on the 4th of March 1888. Mr. Nott
was 59 years old. His funeral was attended by
the Squire and Vicar of the parish. He was
buried in Lingen Chapel on the 10th of March.

Henry James Nott was the son of Methodist Preacher James Nott and his wife Jane Child. Henry's father
James built the Lingen Chapel which was opened in 1877 and is still in use today. Henry was educated at
Westley College in Sheffield in the early 1870's. Wesley College provided a higher quality education
combined with religious training in Methodism. Following his education Henry returned to The Farlands,
married Emily Oxtoby. They would have five children. Henry would continue to live on the Farlands, his
childhood home until his sudden death at the age of 50 in 1907.
